Multi-Line Question field: Separate each field in the Text Element on PDF Submission

Asked on April 09, 2019 at 10:46 PM

I am trying to create documents from form answers and export as pdf after payment. The form would ask a simple question-ie: what is your name? Then that info would be passed to a token field in a predetermined text field.

lorem ipsum {your name} lorem ipsum. User wouldn't see the lorem ipsum.

once all questions are answered, user would click a payment button and receive a pdf with lorem ipsum populated with form answers.

Very similar to event registration where you buy a ticket by putting in info and receive a pdf once you pay. I'm just not sure how to hide the lorem ipsum and make it look like a document with personalized information. Happy to upgrade for more options.

    Thanks so much

You can add the lorem ipsum with the value of the Name field to a hidden Text field. You can hide the Filed with conditional logic.  This way the Text field will not be shown on the live form, but it will be included inside of the PDF report.

How to Find Field IDs and Names

You can send a PDF report to your users by setting PDF Attachment to YES inside of the Autoresponder Email settings.

Hello-I am trying to create a document that will use many fields and then be sent as a pdf. This includes calculations using the input table and multiline questions. I have the actual document as the last item on my form with most of the unique field id's in the correct places. I'm not seeing many of the id's or the final document when viewing email content on the autoresponder.

I had thought I would be able to edit how it looks in the pdf editor but there is not much information on that, mostly just on creating a pdf form. Is this possible? Also, when I look at the pdf, the unique id's aren't pulling in the fields.

    Thanks for your help

You can attach the PDF copy of submission in the email autoresponder set up in your form that will be sent to your respondents on successful submission.

    1559423132zt17_03_19.png

And if you want to include a text that will include the information a respondent entered in the form fields. You can edit the PDF Document attached that will be attached in the email on the PDF Editor page and include a Text that will have the values from form fields entered by your respondents formatted to your preference.

Yes, I have the pdf option attached but why is the last text card not showing up anywhere? Also, why are the input feilds not showing up at all. I'm attaching screengrab of the input table (I have two) and the final text "card"1559427705Screen Shot 2019-06-01 at 6.181559427730Screen Shot 2019-06-01 at 6.18

The text and input field is present on the left side. Please drag-drop the fields to the right if it is missing in the PDF report.

I understand how to do this in the pdf editor. How can I customize the layout of the fields so that they populate the layout of a document like this.

    LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF {weNeed[1]} {weNeed[4]}

I, {weNeed[1]} {weNeed[4]}, of {weNeed[2]}, {itsTime}, declare that this is my Last Will and Testament.

    I. BASIC THINGS.

PRIOR LAST WILLS AND TESTAMENTS. I intend this to my current Last Will and Testament and revoke all prior Wills or Codicils.

MARITAL STATUS AND CHILDREN. I am married to {spousesName108:first} {spousesName108:last}and have the following living children:
    {listThe76[1]} ;
    {listThe76[2]}; and
    {listThe76}.

Please look at the final card of my form. This is what I want the pdf attachment to look like.

    Thanks for all your help

I tried to find a solution, but it really did not get data using the field name. Your issue has been forwarded to our backend team for further checking so we'll have to wait for their update regarding this problem.

Yes, that's what I was told on June 2, 8 days ago. Do you have a workaround? Has there been any progress? I'm not asking for a new feature, just want to use a feature that is there, but not working properly. Does it have to do with the multi-line card type? I really need answers or at least an update from your backend team.

    thank-you

Would Zapier be of help? Would it work if I wasn't using card format? When I switch out of card format I see that multiline doesn't translate. Please update me on a workaround if you can't fix this problem in a timely way.

Upon testing, it seems that there are some fields in the Card form that doesn't show in the PDF editor via Text element field. One example to this is the multi line field. However, there are also some fields that shows in PDF editor. If you are willing to replace the fields with Short text entry, then it would be possible to fill on PDF form.

    ex.

So far, I've tried Name field, Short text and Long text entry field and these appears in the PDF editor.

We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.

As suggested by my colleague, the data is passing to the text element in the Classic layout but unfortunately, the multiline element is not supported in the Classic layout. You would have to use the Short text entry field replacing the multiline field.

All the calculations would still work in the Form.

This workaround is not suggested by our development team, the ticket is still open and is looked upon by our developers. We cannot provide an ETA to this but as soon as they will update we will inform you.

On testing the cloned Form the Short text entry field pass the value to the text element when we download the PDF report:

We will assist you in building the Form.

    Thanks.

is there a progress indicator or timeline like there is in card format in the classic layout? This is important.

I've spent SO much time and my client is justifiably angry. Why would you not make it clear that multiline doesn't work? Also, can you send me link to the clone that you made so I can test it?

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

I still need to confirm this, but it appears that the value of the fields added to the Text Element doesn't really show on the PDF Editor page

    1560296400zt19_36_43.png

until the PDF Submission is previewed

    1560296620zt19_40_43.png

Notice that in my screenshot above that the value of each field in the Multi-Question field still doesn't show after the PDF Submission was previewed. But it seems that each value can be passed separately to the Text Element on the form itself.

    1560297219zt19_50.gif

I will add my findings to the ticket submitted by my colleague in this thread.

In the meantime, you can still use JotForm Cards, however, if you want to have each value of the fields in the Multi-Question field inserted in the Text Element of your form separately, you can have each value inserted first to separate Short Text Entry field that you can add and hide on the form so it will not be shown to your respondents. You can insert the value of a field in the Multi-Question field to another field using condition. — How-to-Insert-Text-or-Mathematical-Calculation-into-a-field-using-a-Condition

    1560298785zt20_18_00.png

Once you have set that up, you can include the Short Text Entry fields in the Text Element on the PDF Editor page.

    1560299534zt20_28_49.png

The PDF Submission would appear like after.

    1560299635zt20_33_13.png

    Here's a Sample Form I created where I have applied that workaround — https://form.jotform.com/91618064879975

NOTE: To get a PDF Submission, please enter a valid email address to the email address field of the (Multi-Question field) form when you submit it. A PDF Submission is attached to the email autoresponder that will be sent to your email address.

But, if you decide to use the Classic layout of the form instead and you would like to add a Progress bar to it, I suggest that you check both the Form Tabs widget and the Progress Bar widget to see which one would best suit your needs. You can also add both to your form if you like to.

This may work. I've been trying to make it work in my form and sometimes it doesn't work. Can you tell me why before I invest too much time again. I'm trying to make the last name field work. I've tried multiple times and can't get it to work.

Place holder text seems to not work either. I've created short text last name to popullate document at bottom of form

I tested your Form once again and noticed you have configured the condition to copy the first name and last name to two different short text entry fields. What you can do is concatenate the first name and last name to a single short entry field this way you will save one field.

    15604951651.PNG

    15604951011.PNG

Right now your PDF report is not updating so what you can do is create a new PDF or delete the text element from the existing PDF and drag-drop the PDF element from left to right. I have created a new test document to see if it was working and I noticed it was working with the test submissions I have made.

What you can do is make the changes and then, in the end, update the PDF report in the PDF editor, it will update the changes.

Here is the Demo Form I have made:

    https://www.jotform.com/91641200533950

Please make a test submission and let us know how it goes.

I am trying to use the unique field id's syntax that the above June 26 response said would work and it's not working. I've tried disabling the short text conditionals and it still isn't working. I've so far just tried it in the first card 'We need to get a little personal information' and placed fields in bottom document here but when previewing the fields are blank.

    LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF {city[1]} {city[4]}

I, {city[1]} {city[4]} of {city[5]} {city[2]}, {itsTime} declare that this is my Last Will and Testament.
