How to configure form to display form field side by side.

Hi guys - looking to create a trial form to see if your system suits our workflows but having all sorts of hassles getting the online form layout to work. I've reduced the size of fields and allowed them to "shrink" so I can place one field next to another but the system just dumps them at the bottom of the page every time I try to place one.

How do I get past this?
