I have a form for membership of a sports association, where prospective members have to pay a membership fee. I'm trying to allocate them a unique membership number by using the "Unique ID" field.
I assumed the Unique ID would only increment when the form was completely submitted and the user's details recorded in the Submissions and associated reports. However it appears that the number is incremented prior to the payment, and therefore all those users who never pay, and thus never join, get a unique ID. That's roughly one-third of people who hit the "Submit" button.
This means there's a lot of gaps in the membership numbers, and the next number gallops way ahead of the actual number of members. It looks wrong and doesn't make much sense.
Can this be changed so that the Unique ID only increments once the submission is complete?

Incomplete payments are still considered as "Submissions", so this must be the reason why it is still counted on the Unique ID counter. Unfortunately I couldn't think any possible workaround. However, I have forwarded the problem to our higher ups so they can consider to fixed this in the future, if it's possible. You will get updates once it has been worked on.

I'm concerned that this fix might have introduced a new issue.
When my users submit a membership form they receive an email notification that includes their membership number - the unique ID. This has worked reliably until now.
However in some cases now the unique ID changes after the email notification has been sent. Based on the email notification the user believes their membership number is x, but the jotform submission shows it to be x-1.
It's causing a lot of confusion (and angry members).

Thank you for this information. I was able to reproduce the issue on the inconsistency of unique id# field on email notification versus the submission data.
The unique id# increments by 1 when seen in the email.
May I request though that you create a new post about it here http://www.jotform.com/contact since the original issued ticket was already resolved, and this is a new one.
We will respond to your new post at once.
