    Hi there,

Well, I've gone and done it and lost my private key. I've turned off encryption for the time being. The encrypted form data is showing up in chrome on some forms but not others. Can you please guide me as to how to restore the key from that browser's local storage.

    Thank youuuuu

Q13: What Will Happen If I Lose the Private Key? | TOP ↑

If you have lost the private key, then there is not much that you can do. It means that your encrypted data is lost forever, there is no copy of the same on our servers and it is not possible to crack the one that you had.

Our only recommendation is to turn off encryption right away so you can start receiving submissions normally again. Leave the encrypted submission data on your Submissions Page just in case you find the key at some later point in time.

Note that if you can see decrypted data in some browser, but the key is lost, it may be possible to restore the key from that browser's local storage. If this is the case, contact our support for instructions.

    Hello Jewelli,

What is the browser you are using? Generally, you can check paths:

In Chrome, web storage data is stored in the user's profile folder - typically "\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Storage" on Windows, and "~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Local Storage" on Mac. But, I am not sure if key will be still there.

The key should be saved into Downloads folder by default. Have you checked it?

    This guide can help: Where-Can-I-Find-the-Private-Key-After-Downloading-It

When you find the key, please note that form encryption should be turned on for the system to prompt the key. With encryption turned off, next submissions will be received not encrypted.

Let us know if you need any further assistance.
