Thank you bringing this issue to our attention.
To fix the issue, you will first need to generate an API key in your FilePicker.IO account .
In your Jotform builder, click the Filepicker.IO Properties Icon.
After opening the Properties Window, enter the API key you have generated in your FilePicker.IO account. If you get some sort of error like the screen show below, simply click the API Key label and you should be able to enter the API Key without problem.
If you need further assistance, please contact us again.

thank you very much. I just found the answer at http://www.jotform.com/answers/189355-Filepicker-io-integration-API-key-generated-needs-to-be-entered-manually as well.
unfornutalelly the biggest problem is that you accept only images. not even pdf. will that change or should I look for a different solution?

...actually your standard File Upload allows any type of file and multiple files upload at the same time as well. not as fancy as the filepicker but fine.

To accept various type of file extension using FilePicker.IO, you will have to upgrade to their paid plan or you can also use the standard file upload field which is free and accepts different types of file extension depending on what you set.
