Spreadsheet to Form widget will not recognize the access code if it contains '&' character

We have dropdown box where the college names have been entered, few names are very long and spill over to the next line in the "Properties->General->Items" 

We have another field using this selected value for searching through a spreadsheet to form widget

The issue happens only for the names that spill over, it cannot find the college name in the widget and cannot fetch the details

please help

The issue seems to be with the Spreadsheet to form field, it is not taking "&"

I am not sure if I have understood your question correctly. I did check your form but could not locate any dropdown filed for the college name. You do have spreadsheet to form widget in your form but what is the issue you are having in populating the field?

This college name spills over into the second line

Now click "Auto Complete Fields" in "Fetch College Details", it will not get the details. I think this is bug.

Replace the "&" in the college name to "and" and try it, it works

I am unable to replicate the issue with your cloned Form.

Could you please share the document that you are attaching with the Spreadsheet so that we can investigate further.

No that is not what i meant

1) In the filed "Enter College Name" select "Avinashilingam Institute For Home Science & Hr. Edn For Women University,Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu". This college name spills over into the second line

2) Now click "Auto Complete Fields" in "Fetch College Details", it will not get the details. I think this is bug.

When I mentioned replacing "&" with "and", it is not in the text box. If we do any change in the text box of Spreadsheet to form, if it does not match with the spreadsheet, it won't work

1) in field "Enter College Name" properties edit this particular college name and replace "& "with "and"

2) in the spreadsheet to form replace the file with excel which has the edited college name - "&" replaced by "and", I dont see an option to attach so pasting it here

So does that mean when you have "&" added in the autocomplete field items, the data is not populated in through the spreadsheet to form widget? Or in other words, if text with "&" is searched in the spreadsheet to form widget, it is not able to search and populate form field?

I did test your form and it seems to work as expected if the value contains "and" instead of "&". Please check the screenshot below:

Yes your understanding is correct, with "&" and spillover to next line does not work. If "&" and it does not spill over to next line it works. I am not sure it is an issue in autocomplete field to Spreadsheet to Form widget or only in Spreadsheet to Form widget

Hello Harish,

You are right, if an option contains '&' character, widget will not recognize the input correctly. That's because '&' strips everything that goes after it. I will create a ticket for this and our developers will check if this can be improved. 

For now, I can only suggest not to use '&' for access codes. Please replace those characters with 'and' on the sheets. 

If there would be news for the ticket, we will inform you right away.
