How to prevent submissions when items out of stock?

Is there a way to have an inventory of items (only allow certain number sign-up per type) and when gone not allow any more sign-ups?  Sort of like when all the seats are sold out to a concert no more sales.  We need a way to allow registrations but limit to the first 10 for each category on event date, once per month (15 in all) then not allow any more registrations after that.

If this is not possible with the current software, where can I submit a suggestion for future improvements?
