Why do I need to cancel current subscription to change the billing method?

I have been told I need to cancel my Bronze account to I can re-sign up for the same Bronze with a different credit card. Seems a bit convoluted to me for something most sites allow easily.

Regardless, please walk me through the process. I quick look at the site did not show a way to cancel the account. I'm sure it's there but isn't easy to find.
