Is it possible to disable real-time validation for required fields?

Asked by rcheriel on April 04, 2011 at 03:09 PM

If someone clicks inside a required field but then decides to jump to another field, it flags the initial field as "This field is required." Is it possible to disable this functionality so you only have validation upon form submission?

The answer is no. Required field validation is done on the client-side as it uses Javascript, a client-side scripting language. I see server-side validation possible, but that would mean every single attempt to submit without the required fields will count as one submission. I don't think that's desirable because it will use up your submissions limit.

You can either implement a PHP validation process using the HTTP POST data gathered from a submission, or you can achieve validation by using conditions to send a user back to the form if he misses a required field.

But ultimately, like I said, each attempt will count as one submission.

Hope this clears things out. Let me know if you have further questions.
