A new google sheet is created with each submission instead of just a new record in just one sheet

Asked by instantes on April 07, 2013 at 09:13 AM

Yesterday I notices that a new google sheet is being createded with each submission instead of just a new record in just one sheet. This brings all kind of problems. I have noticed in the Forum that several other JotForm users are having the same problem.

This bug is new as it used to work well days ago. Maybe it is creating a new sheet instead of just updating it.

This bug is critical as lots of integrations stop working (shared google sheet, integration of google sheets with Zoho, lots of files being created in google docs, etc).

I have noticed this happens with some of my forms.

    It does happen with http://form.jotformpro.com/jsform/30947858966981

It does not happen with http://form.jotformpro.com/jsform/30547618365964

Both are using the same Google Docs account.

Can you please try reintegrating Google Speadsheet and see if it solves the issue. It would also be a great help to our investigation if you could provide us a share link to your Google spreadsheet.

I am able to reproduce the duplication of google spreadsheet issue when your form is submitted.

I found that it have to do with the foreign characters in your form's questions/labels.

I was able to resolved the issue by changing the questions/labels to a regular English or by removing the foreign characters then re-integrate the form to google spreadsheet.

You can test my cloned form http://www.jotformpro.com/form/30965812561962

You can check the updated google spreadsheet results of the test form here (I shared it)

For the meantime, you may also want to apply the changes I made to resolve the google spreadsheet duplication issue. It should also work on your forms.

I will also submit a ticket to our next level support to investigate this further.

It is strange because I created a new form from scratch http://www.jotformpro.com/form/30963816458969 with international characters an it works well, so this must not be the reason.

Also, being JotForm multi language it should work well with all the supported laguages, but anyway, as I said, it is working well with form 30963816458969

    Hi Pedro,

We'll try to invistigate this further. My colleague was able to reproduce the problem with the "spanish" language so he have that noted on the report.

I suggest you use the new form since it is working, while waiting for an update.

We apologize for missing to update this thread.

Ideally, the Google Spreadsheet only connects properly in using English characters which may have caused the forms' integrations to fail.  However, we've made fixes that resolved the issue on integrations creating a new spreadsheet everytime a form receives a submission.

If you continue to experience problems with your forms' integration to Google Spreadsheet, please do let us know.
