Modifying a form that users are revisiting

Once a user fills out a form that is designed for them to return at a later date to modify (using the auto-responder and edit link functions), will there be a problem if the form is modified between visits? I wouldn't necessarily change the fields they have completed, but perhaps creating additional fields, modifying the contents of drop-downs, etc.) My sense is that during any subsequent visits, whatever there is on the form to complete at the time of the visit (modified from previous versions or not), that is the data that will be written/saved. Is this correct?

Is it also correct to assume that on subsequent visits, a new record is written? Or is the same record used? If it is the former, I would think that a problem would be created when generating reports.

Yes that's correct. Whenever you visit the edit link, it will always display the latest version of submission data in the form.

When you save the submission data through the edit link, it will always update the same submission record. New record will not be created as you are just updating a record.

One other question; when a user updates a previously submitted form, do they get a new edit link, or will they get the same one? I'm just considering users who might delete or otherwise lose the auto-responder email that contains the link and wondering how easy it would be to resend the email or link to them at their request. Is it possible to have the auto-responder link written to the user's submitted record?

    Thanks again!

We will not change the Edit link, it will be the same link based on submission ID.

In order to get more information about the Edit link, please take a look at the following article:

How to Make a Clickable Edit Link

You can not write that link to the submissions report, but you can send it to yourself using email notification. Also, you can generate it manually based on form ID and submission ID:
