Shrink fails to put two fields on the same line

I have "shrunk" the two fields, as well as adjust the side. They still cannot go on the same.  Please advice.

Hi, 

No, I want to put Grade in the same line with the first and last name .  I just looked at it, it works now. Honestly, I have no idea why. ... I did no change it.. O well , perhaps the error was from cache. 

But now,   the required * .. I could not make it go onto the side of Firstname input box. Thus, I make it go on top of it. Not that I want to, but that seems to the only solution I can find. 

How do I place the * to the side like the following:

The alignment is fixed now by moving the label of the Grade to top.
