Posting data to Webmerge through a Webhook

Asked by donadioj on July 05, 2013 at 04:30 AM

I saw that jotform recently added a webhooks module to the form builder.  I've been trying to post my form data to the service webmerge, which then inserts the data into a pre-formatted pdf.  I can only get it to work if I use the public webmerge url as the customized url of the thank you message.  This isn't ideal because after filling out the form, the user is redirected to a blank page. However, when trying to add the url as a webhook the data is not relayed correctly.  Here is an example of another form site that is able to use webhooks to connect to the service: https://webmerge.zendesk.com/entries/22163172

How could I configure the webhook to likewise work in jotform?

    Hi,

Can you share to us the webhookURL you used on the form? We can check this further.

You can also use the test console in the API documentation page on Webhooks post here

    http://api.jotform.com/docs/#post-form-id-webhooks

And you should also create your API key to make use of the console. You can do so in your My Accounts API page

    https://www.jotform.com/myaccount/api

In the test console result, check if the result is '200' or success.

Hope this help. Please inform us if you need further assistance.

    Thanks.

    Hello Jonathan,

Thank you for your thorough response.  I created an API key.  In fact, the url that webmerge provides (https://www.webmerge.me/merge/5017/eu9qi) doesn't appear to be a valid webhook considering the warning message from the console:

    {"responseCode":400,"message":"Bad request (\/form-id-webhooks) - WebHook URL is wrong. (Example : http:\/\/www.myhost.com\/post.php)","info":"http:\/\/api.jotform.com\/docs#form-id-webhooks","limit-left":9999}

It still seems like this could be possible: http://www.webmerge.me/blog?blog_id=18

Perhaps I have to write my own webhook in php hosted on our server?

    Thank you,

    Jessica

    Hi Jessica,

Yes, you'll need to write your own PHP Scripts in order to make this possible. We'll try to check this and get you an example codes.

    Thanks

Thank you for the help.  In the end I used Zapier to bridge the Jotform submissions with Webmerge which works well.  I likewise found Jotform's extensive tutorial on posting to mySQL using PHP here:
