Is it possible to make edits on the resulting spreadsheet that can be saved even though more submissions come in and update the spreadsheet? For example, can I add more columns to the right side where I can note a phone call with a registrant, or other post-submission data? Thank you!

Hello,
Please note that if you make any edits/changes to the integrated Google sheet, it will break the integration and data will not get transferred.
Edits/changes include, adding new worksheets, adding/hiding columns/rows, changing column titles, etc or any other revisions to the integrated sheet.
You can use an IMPORTRANGE function and transfer the data from this integrated sheet to a separate Google spreadsheet or excel file and then make changes on that file.
