Address Field: Copy individual components into separate short texts

  • briar3462
Asked on October 7, 2020 at 3:02 PM

In my "PDF Test" Form, I have the user enter her address but I then want to separate its individual components into specific short text lines but I can't figure out how to do it.

I have individual short texts of:

    Street Address 1

    Street Address 2

    City

    State

    Zipcode.

    Thanks

I can get it to work in a paragraph field.

Is it possible to copy from the paragraph field to a short field?

Also, I tried copying from an Address element with auto-complete enabled to an Address element without auto-complete enabled and I found that it often doesn't copy the "city" field for some reason.

Apparently, the only way that the "City" field is copied is if the "Street Address 2" field is also filled.

What's the deal with that, JotForm people?

Hello! Please find answers to your queries below:

    1. Kindly note that the Address field components can't be individially copied to a Short Text field.

    2. However, it is possible to copy Address field components to a paragraph field using placeholders like: {address:addr_line1}, {address:addr_line2}, {address:city}, {address:state}, {address:postal}.

    3. You can collect the Address information in Short Text fields itself and then map these fields individually to your PDF form.

    4. Values from the Short text fields can be copied to paragraph fields but it is not possible to map paragraph field values to the Short text fields.

    - Also, I tried copying from an Address element with auto-complete enabled to an Address element without auto-complete enabled and I found that it often doesn't copy the "city" field for some reason.

I created a simple form and introduced a condition to copy the value of Address field to another Address field. This seems to be working at my end. Please try filling this form: https://form.jotform.com/202811805344045

    Q) Can you please provide replication steps for this?

We'll check it and get back to you.

    Thank you!

    Hi Patrick,

Thank you for checking on this for me. I must say that many of these restrictions defy all sense of logic and common sense and perhaps is something that Jotform's engineers should reconsider. I appreciate your efforts but, unfortunately, I don't need a paragraph placeholder and collecting address information in Short Text fields or a Multi-line element seems to nullify the idea of having an Address element at all. Again, I ask that JotForm's engineers reconsider these nonsensical restrictions.

As per copying from one address element to another, I found two errors in the form that you created:

    1. Your form is in standard format and not card format. It needs to be in card format.
    2. The first Address field needs to have autocomplete enabled. The second Address field needs to have autocompleted disabled.

I am trying to copy an address from the first Address field (the one with the enabled autocomplete) to the second Address field (the one with the disabled autocomplete).

Thank you again for your help. I look forward to your reply.

    Apologies for the inconvenience.

Let me forward this to our developers to check if this is something that can be implemented in the future. Though we cannot give you an ETA for this, rest assured you'll be informed here for any updates.

I have moved the copy address element issue on a separate ticket to avoid confusion. Kindly wait for my response here.

This is a NEW and significant chnage by Jotform. I have several legal and consent forms that I have been using Jotform for some time. The 'address field' (with individual componenets) copied into a 'short text' field has been working for ages and has populated several locations on my PDF's automatically (based on the single address the clinets entered at the start). In the last days we have received multiple PDF forms from clients that are imcomplete and missing the address at every location. This is a NEW chnage by JotForm! It was working only a few days back. What and why have you changed this? The 'name' element still works this way... why have you changed this?
