    New user questions (3): how can I trigger a popup form to appear? more...

    Asked by genierose on May 21, 2011 at 03:21 PM

    I am new to Jot Form and it looks like a terrific product! I have designed my first form and I want to have a button/hyperlink on my page to trigger the form appearing, but I haven't figured out how to do that. What I ended up doing was hyperlinking to a new page with only the form on it. It functions properly and a thank you page comes up, but the only way back is by hitting the back arrow on the browser. Right now you can view what i have done by going to the link in the footer.

    I will try to be more organized about my questions.

    1. How do I link to a small contact form that will open in a new window (over the page the user is on)?

    2. How can I get a close button on the contact form?

    3. How can I get a button on the thank you window that will close it or take the user back to the originating page?

    Thank you for any help. :)

    Hi genierose,

    Thank you for your messages and we're glad to hear that you find JotForm as an awesome tool for your website.

    Please allow me to answer your questions one by one:

    1. How do I link to a small contact form that will open in a new window (over the page the user is on)?
    Answer: You can use the Pop-up embed code  found in the Embed Form Wizard. This embed code will create a text hyperlink that will open a new window containing the form when clicked.

    2. How can I get a close button on the contact form?
    Answer:  You can use the following code to add a close window link on the page:

    <a target="_blank" href="javascript:window.opener='x';window.close();">Close< /a>

    To add a close window button, change the code as shown below:

    <a target="_blank" href="javascript:window.opener='x';window.close();"><img src="URL where the button can be found">< /a>

    3. How can I get a button on the thank you window that will close it or take the user back to the originating page?

    Here'e the code to redirect your visitor back to the originating page:

    <a target="_blank" href="javascript: history.go(-2)">Back to originating page< /a>

    If you want a button instead of text, your code should be something like this:

    <a target="_blank" href="javascript: history.go(-2)"><img src="URL where the button can be found">< /a>

    This code actually takes the user 2 pages back, so the originating page should be opened 2 pages before the currently active window. You can change the number to whatis applicable for you.

    We hope you find the above useful. Regarding your last question, may we ask which menu bar appeared and what button/link did you click that led you to this menu bar? We're very eager to assist you.

    Thank you for using JotForm! Let us know if we can be of further assistance.
