I don't want to recieve a response to a form unless there was a payment made. Is this option automatic or are there other steps that I have to take?

That's automatic. If you have used any of the payment tools like Paypal, Stripe or Authorize.net you will be able to get emails only if the payment has been processed or the user has successfully paid the items. If the user didn't complete the payments on the payment page, the submissions will be pending on your form submissions page. Here's a more detailed about it. How to View Incomplete Payments
