Voice Recorder Widget - disable Automatic Gain Control

  • FUUNDMM
Asked on December 7, 2020 at 6:47 AM

Can I disable the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) on the Voice Recorder Widget? I need to set the record input level at the system level, and leave it there for recording singing.

Is this a new feature of the widget?

It would be lovely to be able to adjust the record level within the JotForm with a slider, and even see a level meter.

    Thank you!
    Jaie

    Greetings Jaie,

Please send a screenshot of the AGC option in the widget you've mentioned. I believe we will have to raise a feature request for the slider option you are referring to.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thanks

Widget Gain 1 is where I preset my mic gain, because I'm going to sing and it is going to be loud.
Widget Gain 2 is after I have clicked record, and it bounces the gain high because it doesn't hear anything yet.
Then it freaks out when I start singing.
The XENYX input is a USB analog mixer, so it does not do Automatic Gain Control (AGC) like gaming headsets. There is no setting for AGC in my sound control panel, nor is there a setting in the widget.

    Thank you for contacting us.

Unfortunately, there's no option in the widget to adjust its record level, though I believe there's an option to adjust the microphone's level from the system settings.

    Guide: https://support.shadowhealth.com/hc/en-us/articles/360007282013-Change-microphone-volume-Windows-10-

Is that what you're looking for?

I hope this helps. Let us know if you are referring to something else.

    Hi Lorenz_A

I see my screenshots did not upload from my email response.

I set my Windows Record Level to where I want it.

When I click Record, the Widget changes the gain automatically.

    Hello,

I tested the issue on my end and I was not able to replicate the issue. I think this is not a JotForm related issue. Could you please try checking your microphone settings? Please make sure that the auto increase in volume is disabled on the microphone settings. Here are some guides that you can check and follow:

    https://techisours.com/prevent-microphone-from-auto-adjusting-on-windows

Please try it and let us know if you need further help. Thank you!

    Hi VincentJay

    What browser/OS were you running?

My system does not offer AGC in the mic settings. I have ticked all those boxes and also tried different mics. I'm going to try a different browser.

    Chrome/Windows10PRO
    XENYX USB mixer

Apparently Chrome and WEBRTC apps/sites have AGC built in.

You could try adding a Chrome extension to disable the AGC. Another option would be recording it from your computer, and using a File Upload field to upload the audio file: https://www.jotform.com/help/332-how-to-create-file-upload-forms

I tried the Chrome extension and it seem to install correctly (and i allowed) access, but the AGC was still active. It looks like jotform uses WebRTC and I'm wondering if it recently changed to enable the AGC in WebRTC? If so, it'd be great to have at least a checkbox to turn it on/off.

The file upload solution defeats the purpose of using the recording widget, which in this case is to make it super simple for people to watch a video and record a choir track.

Please note that "Voice Recorder" widget requires real time communication with the server and only works with WebRTC capable browser. This is related to the browser you are using and not a configuration in widget.

Have you checked this issue with other browsers? Do you see the same issue in other browsers?

Thank you all for your support.

FireFox at this time (Dec 2020) appears WebRTC enabled, but does NOT force Automatic Gain Control (AGC) on microphone usage.

I will be advising my singers to use FireFox for their recordings.

    Thank you!
    Jaie

It seems to work (AGC is disabled) on Firefox. Thanks

I do want to recognise why I want to offer Authorize.Net API Login and Transaction Key? They could be on the products landing web page after the survey and truely add to cart and purchase from the touchdown web page.
