Why, when my form had "stars" for required fields, was someone able to send me a blank form?

Today I receive my first submission of my Contact Form from my newly launched website. However, it was a major disapointment because there was NOTHING on it! What I don't understand is how is it that someone could hit the SUBMIT button, when I have many required fields on the form? I thought that if they do NOT fill out the required sections, the Form cannot be sent.  I am hoping to eliminate spammy type forms, or non-serious inquiries by requiring certain fields to be filled in.

Could that be why I received a blank form?  Is it possible that someone tried to get around filling out those sections, but the form came through, anyhow -- but just as a complete blank?

Required field validation is made possible by a JavaScript function built-in to Jotform. The only way to bypass this is to disable JavaScript in the user's browser. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it. The power to bypass JavasScript controls is in the hands of the user.

However you can eliminate the possibility of someone trying to spam you with multiple submits by enabling Unique Submission check. Read on to this page to learn more about that.

If you have other queries or concerns, plase let us know. Thank you for using Jotform.

In reading over other posts received today, it seems that there was a problem with people receiving BLANK forms.

So now I realize it may have nothing to do with the stars/required fields.  I'm glad the problem has beeen fixed. But thank you also for addressing that issue. When I mentioned being possibly "spammed" I was referring to just people playing around who are not serious, more than being sent multiple submits. However, if there's a way to avoid that also, I will see to it!

Back to my lost form today that came through as a BLANK, is there a way to retrieve the "lost" contact form during this glitch you had today? (I read you also had a hacker today).

Thank you for your prompt response. To remedy this losing a contact, I just added a note on my website's contact page, that if people don't hear back from me within 24-72 hours, it is due to a technical problem with the host site. I'm asking people to just call me. I don't expect this will happen often, but just my luck, it happened to me when I got my first submission!

Thanks for any insight or help you can offer.

    Hello Michelle,

From what I understand, the other user's concern in another thread where you posted is more about his forms (the actual forms he created) being blank or wiped out, meaning the form elements are missing/have disappeared.

This is way too irrelavant to your issue. Like I said, it is easy to bypass required field validation by disabling JavaScript. As a proof, I have just sent a blank submit to your form. Go check it out.

Don't worry about the wasted submit. I have already cleared it from your counter.

    Thank you.
