    Conditional Rule - Confusion

Asked by andypenn on October 18, 2013 at 04:25 PM

would you be so kind as to intervien here Iam totally lost now as sometimes the form seems to be working and other times its not I get the feeling that stuff is being saved else where, when you guys have sent instruction it has offen included the clone of form the one that I am working on is clone , of clone ,I think

The form address posted below is not working at all however it seems that when I alter something in the form builder save it , then go to the url and refresh it, it seems to load another page so to be honest I do not know what form I am actully working on , I dont know what form now to delete

one of the guys yesterday corrected my conditions would it be possible for this to happen again please and then delete the forms on this subject that I will not be needed, or inform me of which ones to delete myself to save confusion

How form shold work: as a reminder the 1st radio should select either De- employ or Instruct,   the condition placed on this should open corresponding heading (field collapse),    on opening either field there is a radio select  , and below that a text field on selection of a surveyor a new heading is displayed (field clolapse) displaying one of three surveyors and the  name address  fields etc this is the same for both de-employ or Instruct

one inportant point is that once the de employ fields is being viewed and then the de employ / instruct is switched to "instruct" it should hide eveything from the non selected heading either de employ or Instruct

I am pushing the value of jot to increase the forms we use and increase the account cost to a higher package and I have promised this form for the weekend , I am selling it on its ease of use , On this one I have simply confused myself.

    advice please

It seems that you have a 'De-employment' form with working conditions:

Link to that form on your account:

Is this a good form that you can use? If it is not, please let us know. We will try our best to help you with this.

    Hello,

I'm havin trouble understanding which form you are focusing on working at this time.

This form appears to not have a woring drop down selection:

    http://form.jotformpro.com/form/32895818309972

Where as http://www.jotform.co/form/32892650807865 appears to be working better but it's missing the instructor form information.

Do let us know on which form you want to focus working properly, so we can help you better, thank you.

In addition to what my colleagues have posted, please avoid creating new threads regarding this issue to avoid any further confusion among us. Please use your main thread and reply there:

sorry it was not my intention to confuse I understand it would be easier to keep thread

glad you said that as i thought it was me  what make things worse is I think clone on clone has a lot more info on but the conditions seem to be all wrong.

I need to draw a line here from now on lets say we will work on form http://www.jotform.co/form/32892650807865

I have just chucked a html field and a text field in and it appears to have gone in ok, can I delete the other  forms without faer of affecting the above form.

the clone on clone form has had some conditions alterd so will this affect the above form should I delete what I dont want,

I will work on this form and perhaps I could come back to you if I have any problems  I had a problem with conditions and in particular hiding de-employ when instruct was visible and vice a versa

well we are back, It was evident that the old way was never going to work so have bit by bit carefully buit a new form http://form.jotform.co/form/32911873412856 this form has been designed differently and was working, I used simple indentifiying text when I built the form like field 1, field 2 ect. to save on time getting it to a test stage, testing as I went along, and I made sure it was tested at each stage, all working

Once I was happy I then backtracked and re named everything, once again checking the conditins were appopriatly named , and a further test on each as I went along all working.

once I was happy I then set out to add some fields, checked at each stage once again all working, then I noticed a spelling mistake in one word that would form part of a condition, so edited to be correct and then checking the condition to make sure all matched. By doing this it has thrown the whole form out so it no longer works as it had all the way through the build process, I have checked carefully all the fields against the conditions and I cant see anything wrong, indeed even the working ones conditions are the same as the non working ones (obviously with the apportiate nameing)

I felt it strange that it was working with the miss spelt word, and by correcting the spelling it has thrown the form out.

I wonder if you would be so kind as to advise

    @andypenn,

I'm trying to replicate the issue on my end by following exactly what you did but I wasn't able to get the error you were mentioning in your previous post. I made a sample form with a default field name then made a condition after I test the condition I then renamed the fields and still the conditions are working correctly. Can you please guide us on how we can reproduce the issue.

    Thanks,

thanks for the  reply. ok things have moved on a little and I am now hoping that you will be able to advise me. I have continued building the form and  the only thing that is not working are two of the collapse fields. I can see nothing wrong yet they wont operate all the conditons seem to be ok but it will not operate is there anything stored on my pc from you guys that may need refreshing or updating, if I can get the two carrick & co fields to operate in the same way as the rest I think we might of cracked it.

I am confused as when I look at the form over my network on another pc's it does the same as what I am attepting to explain to you. Bit of a hint maybe when creating this form I built in a drop down box  and when I went to insert the fields found it was already populated nothing else on the form is it beinging linked to another form some how as I am usisg the same info over and over.

When carrick & Co (instruct) is selected , carrick & Co (instruct) field should be displayed, the same goes for Carrick & Co (de-employ) could you check the conditions for me that apply to the two fields, I have just checked prior to this post and all is working bar the two carrick & co fields (checked on 2 pc's same result)here is the form

Hello, I've gone ahead and replicated the error on your form. The conditional rules seem to be correct, nevertheless the first 2 choices fail to appear. At this moment I will create a ticket to escalate your issue to the next level support. Once they have an update on the matter, they should let you know over this thread. Thank you.

Quote from last post from you guys:

I Have some information which may help, whilst thinking about this , I came up with an Idea as follows:

I created two field collapse fields, and named them roberts, I then draged the  fields down to thier new posissions saving and previewing after each and every movement in an attempt to find the offending field, to which I did not find. The condition setup for the test name of roberts worked fine. I then edited the name of roberts to Carrick & Co and placed a full stop after it so as to make sure I could identifiy when creating conditions. I also renamed the collapse field appropriatly saved  and  saved again, then previewed and it would not work.

I then went back and edited the drop down and made sure the collapse field matched, this time I removed the (&) sign between  Carrick &  Co saved it previewed it and it worked.

So I believe the issue may derrive from the (&) charicter.

Thinking back when I 1st started having problems with conditions not working one of you guys informed me that I had a unessacery charicter and in the drop down field it was an (amp;) next to the & charicter and I was informed to remove this. could this be the answer?? ( I have not further tested this on a new form)

    here is the form http://form.jotform.co/form/32911873412856

I do need to know if it is safe to delete all the other forms that have been created cloned double cloned ect whilst trying to sort this form out.

    Hi,

As a rule, always rememer that deleting the form will erase all related data of the form (submissions, uploaded files).

It is safe to delete the clone forms that are unused. Just be careful that you only delete the right form.

Each form have separate instance because they each have unique form ID#.

Inform us if you have further question on this.

    Thanks.

ok I have my form finally working, I now need a little advice on how I should set up mail address so that each form will go to the proper subject on submit and a copy to the home email address for our activity records. I have an idea but before I try and possibly screw it all up I would seekadvice ( a little knowledge is some times dangerous.) http://form.jotform.co/form/32911873412856
