    Random fieldnames changes

    Asked by passonimax on October 29, 2013 at 11:37 AM

    Hello there,

    I made a form with custom labeled fields. I thought that jotform was going to set the fieldname after the labels, but looking at my urlsite field I found the name urlsite03 (while urlsite is what I need);

    after opening and closing a few times the properties dialog the field name magically changed to urlsite (i.e. what I actually needed).

    Could you please help me understanding the field naming logics behind jotform? Thank you in advance

    Max

    Hello Max. I am not sure if I understood you correctly but I will try to explain on that. Unfortunately this is not how the hidden field works in relation with field names.

    To get a better understanding on the properties involved on the hidden field please refer on the image below:

    Since the default value is set to www.udine3d.it then it will be contained inside {uafsite} which then can be used on the notification. When someone fills the form and submits it, you will receive a notification email containing uafsite = {uafsite} which is actually equal to www.udine3d.it

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    Basically now I understand the labels have nothing to do with the field names I read in the POST requests. So now it comes the next question: how do I change the field names I use to access the fields in the POST requests?

    I'm asking this because I am writing a common php function that will work with several different forms and I want to unify the field names I read from the POST request.

    Sorry for the lack of clarity in my explanation, and thanks again for your patience.

    Well, there is no way to change the field names because it will complicate things on JotForm and will render it useless on notifications. They are assigned dynamically by JotForm.

    If you can give us the forms' URL that you have been working with, maybe we can find a solution after we can find a correlation in between them Thank you.
