Is HIPAA compliance necessary for an employment application?

What is the difference between having HIPPA Compliance and not having HIPPA Compliance. We are an insurance company using JotForm for Employment Applications. We want to make sure all information is secure and we are doing this legally as sensitive information is included on these forms.

Their main difference is how the data are stored and transferred. JotForm's HIPAA Forms, encrypt the data right on your form and then transfer and store the data encrypted. The HIPAA form data is stored in our HIPAA compliant servers which are separated from the Internet using multiple levels of protection and firewalls and the encrypted data is stored in encrypted databases.
