    Is there a way to not include PayPal Payer Information in autoresponder emails?

    Asked by lbmh on June 07, 2011 at 10:39 AM

    Greetings from Paris ! Many thanks for the wonderfull tool.

    Could you please repair the erratic behavior I've spotted ?

    Thanks in advance & best regards.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    This is the e-mail alert template

    ....

    Monsieur XXXXX, trésorier de AUTAut, atteste avoir recu de {nomComplet1} , demeurant {adresse7}, la somme de  {adhesionOu} € pour l'année en cours.

    ....

    and that is the corresponding received e-mail after the form has been submited

    ....

    Monsieur XXXXX, trésorier de AUTAut, atteste avoir recu de  machin truc , demeurant  Adresse: 22 rue emile richard
    Ville: paris
    Code postal: 75004
    Pays: France
    , la somme de

    Adhésion annuelle, donation libre
    Total: 0.1 EUR

    ==Payer Info==
    First Name ******
    Last Name ******
    E-Mail ***********

    € pour l'année en cours.

    ...

    The behavior of the {nomComplet1} field is perfect : the complete name is transmited, this is just what I expected

    The behavior of the {adresse7} field is  annoying since the  fields names are embeded with the field contents. A normal behavior would be to display only the fields contents.

    The behavior of the {adhesionOu} field (generated in the Paypal module) is frankly freaky since personnal information is disclosed. what I expected to see was just the amount of the paypal donation

    I've been asking that that extra information in thpayment amount field (from PayPal) be removed for months, but I can't seem to convince anyone that it just doesn't belong in there. The way it works does NOT allow you to use the payment amount by itself even thought THAT is the value of the field.

    Maybe you'll have better luck.

    Hi,

    Apologies for not being able to answer your question in the soonest time possible. For some weird reason, this went out of the queue and we were unable to notice it.

    With regards to the address field, I apologize but that is just the way it works. If you want the address to show without the (sub) field names, it would be better if you use multiple fields (textbox and dropdown) as your custom address field.

    As for the payer info appearing on the email alert, I have alread submitted a ticket to notify our developers regarding that issue. Thank you for your patience and have a good one.

    Hi David,

    Actualy I expect the Jotform team either to clean the mess or to provide us  with the "subfields" (or "modifiers") information that would allow us to extract what we need from the adress and Paypal fields.

    Such "subfields" (or "modifiers") exists for the full name field, like {fullName2:last} that renders Doe, as explained in this post

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/18852-What-is-the-field-name-for-first-name

    Similars tools are provided for the {DATE} field

    If it will make the developement effort any easier, I think we'd all be happy if instead of adding the "extra" info

    ==Payer Info==
    First Name ******
    Last Name ******
    E-Mail ***********

     into the amount field, just make the amount, and ONLY THE AMOUNT,  available to us SOMEWHERE.

    Then we can design our E-mails and Reports to display the "Amount". The way it is now, we can't neatly display the amount.

    This is one of those things that really needs to move up the priority list (Please).

    Thanks,
    David

    This problem was brought to your attention long long ago by both myself and others. I can only imagine that we haven't clearly explained the problem or I'm sure it would have been addressed long ago.

    It's normal business practice that when someone makes a payment via PayPal, they would expect an Email confirmation, including the amount they paid.

    How can I send them an e-mail that reads like this:

    Dear Joe,

    Thank you for your payment of $10.00

    I don't want to tell him his name and address. I just want to confirm that I received his $10.00.

    We're not asking for major development here. Only that we be able to retrieve the field value that was originaly entered when the customer completed their form submission. In this case $10.00 - nothing more!

    Can you please give us an idea of when we can expect to see this?

    Thanks,

    David

    PS - Just to make my point, THIS is a portion of the E-mail YOU sent to me when I subscribed:

    Hello DAVID MICHAELS,

    You have successfully signed up for a subscription to JotForm premium yearly for dmichaels using PayPal.

    Your first subscription payment, for $45.00 USD, has already been sent to Interlogy LLC.

    The $45 appears without my name, address or any other unrelated info crammed in.

    Hi again David, hope everything is fine with you.

    Of course I fully agree  wiith your opinion.

    All the best.

    Laurent B.

    A note for Neil : you are plain wrong with your adress (sub) field standing.

    If the form creator wants to include in his/her form the (sub) fields name, nothing prevents him/her to prepend or append those, whereas you want to impose those -mostly annoying - fields names leading the fields contents. It is totaly absurd.

    Furthemore, you increase the burden of your developpers and users alike since those fields names differ from language to language.

    As you can see from the image, the payment amount is really not usable for anything much.

    I don't know why, with a tool as mature as JotForm, you can't get around to fixing something that's so obviously broken. Just as "Name" is simply "David Michaels" "Payment Amount" should be simply "20".

    While I realize that someone must have asked for this, clearly, the solution should not have been to step on clean data and basically corrupt it.

    Can you please address this?

    PayPal issue

    Thanks, David

    @dmichaels and @lbmh

    It is now possible to separate the payment information displayed on form emails by using tags. For example, {myProducts:total} will display the total amount (number) paid by the customer.

    Here are more tags:

    product - will display a line break-separated list of the products purchased together with their properties (quantity, color, etc).

    firstname
    lastname
    email
    addr
    city
    state
    zip
    country

    We are still working on having these information separated on Excel, CSV, and Google Spreadsheets.

    We will be posting updates as soon as they are made available.

    Dear Neil,

    Many thanks ! At long last we are almost there...

    The {myProducts:total} subfield works flawlessly as well as the {address:city} and the  {address:country} subfields : they return what is expected

    Unfortunately, {address:street} (as well as {address:street1}) and {address:zip}  do not return anything...

    Actualy, since the relevant form is in french, the exact subfields  actualy are {adresse7:****}

    Clould you please check the matter ? Quickly ?

    Thanks in advance & best regards.

    @lbmh

    You should append those tags to your form's payment field tag. For example, if the field's tag is {myProducts}, the tag to retrieve all those information should be:

    {myProducts:addr}
    {myProducts:city}
    {myProducts:state}

    and so on...

  • Profile Image

    Answered by lbmh on March 18, 2013 at 08:08 AM

    Hi Neil, Good morning !

    Unfortunately, the tags you mentioned produce nothing !

    The only tag that "works" is the {myProducts:total} that does retreive the total amount.

    Once again, the {address:city} and {address:country} do retreive the entered values...

    Also the non tagged {address} full field does retreive all the entered values, but annoyingly embeded with the subflields' names.

    So it seems there still is an small bug lying somewhere...

    Maybe this is related to the fact that we are dealing with a language form in  french ?

    Please send me a private e-mail adress where I can send you a copy of everything related to the issue.

We would suggest to open another thread specifically for this concern and marked it private for your privacy, so only you and JotForm Support Team will be able to view the thread. You can then post all the necessary details there and we would definitely love to check it for you.

    You can also send the info to support@jotform.com but we'd highly recommend opening a new thread here in forum.

    So all ends well ! Eventually we have a full set of "tags" to customize e-mail alerts.

    For the benefit of the community, here is a summary :

    Date tags (from http://www.jotform.com/help/68-Using-Dates-in-Email-Templates)

    Tag Output
    {DATE} 2011-02-07 05:17:05
    {DATE:Date-US} Feb 7, 2011
    {DATE:Date-EU} 7 Feb, 2011
    {DATE:Time-US} 5:17:05 AM
    {DATE:Time-EU} 5:17:05
    {DATE:Full-US} Feb 7, 2011 at 5:17:05 AM
    {DATE:Full-EU} 7 Feb, 2011 at 5:17:05
    {DATE:l, jS \of F Y \a\t g:i A} Monday, 7th of February 2011 at 5:17 AM

    Full name tags (from http://www.jotform.com/answers/18852-What-is-the-field-name-for-first-name)

    {fullName2} renders Dr. John Michael Doe Ph.d (the period after the prefix is automatically inserted)

    {fullName2:first} renders John

    {fullName2:middle} renders Michael

    {fullName2:last} renders Doe

    {fullName2:prefix}. {fullName2:last} renders Dr. Doe (in this case, the period and space must be manually added)

    {fullName2:prefix}. {fullName2:last} {fullName2:suffix} renders Dr. Doe Ph.D

    Address tags

    {address:addr_line1}

    {address:addr_line2}

    {address:postal}   zip code

    {address:city}

    {address:country}

    Paypal tags (from NeilVincente's post above)

    {myProducts:total} will display the total amount (number) paid by the customer.

    Here are more tags:

    product - will display a line break-separated list of the products purchased together with their properties (quantity, color, etc).

    firstname
    lastname
    email
    addr
    city
    state
    zip
    country

    Those {myProducts:***} tags retrieve the values related to the PayPal account holder,  not necessarily the customer's.
