Is random branching possible?Asked by mpezzo on November 19, 2013 at 02:29 AM
I asked this question perhaps 1.5 years ago and got a reasonable answer, but no longer can locate it on the forum. The answer was essentially "no" but try this. I'm trying to develop a psychology experiment, and need to assign people to different conditions at random.
First off, here's the previous thread you're referring to: https://www.jotform.com/answers/18630-
I think that's doable, but you have to use your form source code and inject custom script that will do the random numbers, e.g. between 1 to 3.
First, you have to add a textbox field to your form where the random number will be filled in. If you don't want this to be displayed on your form, use Hidden Box field under Power Tools.
Would you be able to provide to us your final form so we can provide you an example using your form source code with the random number script along with the conditions? We'd appreciate if you could finalize the form first so we can proceed with helping you on the random script. Here's an example script that randomize the number between 1 and 3. http://jsfiddle.net/5A9Ye/1/
If you're also going to create forms with multiple pages, use page break tool it's under Survey Tools.
We'll await your reply. Thanks!
This is awesome news. But I know nothing about coding. Similar to mpezzo, I'm running a psychology experiment which needs randomization. It is a 2-part survey.
Part 1: Same set of questions for all
Part 2: Randomized assignment (there are 2 sets of questions available, let's call them A and B)
I'll currently building the form. I'll use page break tool to separate Part 1, Part 2A, Part 2B.
After that, how/where can I get the codes to randomize Part 2?
Help is much much appreciated.

Like I said to you in your other thread, as for the moment it is not possible, but I have opened a ticket with a feature request. I cannot provide you an stimated time for when this might be implemented though.
Okay, thanks Jeanette. It'll be an awesome thing to be added to the list of functionalities.
