Is there a way for the 2 forms to calculate together to total the number of children registered? Since we can only allow 10 children, it is important that additional children who try to register are notified that the camp is full and their names can be added to a waitlist.

It's not possible to capture the total in both forms, but you can pass the total of form 1 to form 2 or form 2 to form 1.

This method would require the form to be submitted so your goal of combining it without submission is not possible. What I'm referring to is the prepopulation method which will pass a value from one form to the other. If that won't work, then there's no other workaround for that.

I am using this method to prepopulate the sibling form but I can't verify that it is working. It involves sending the thank you with a link that carries the info from certain field from first form to the sibling form. (See conditions for Thank you on the first form.)

If I send the information from the sibling form back to the first form, will that work since the first form of has already been submitted?

It is important that the first form know the total so the next parent who registers can see the total remaining spots.

I cannot verify since the preview form takes me to PayPal and not to the second form. Is there a way to verify? I tried setting the first form's payment to "sandbox," but on submit it takes me to PayPal.

After checking your request I understand, that you wanted to book a position for one or two kids and show the available position.

I create a basic demo for you https://form.jotform.com/210794906288063.

If you select one or two it is going to show the kids fields, then you can add the rest of the information and the payment settings.

You can clone the form to take a look with the following steps https://www.jotform.com/help/42-how-to-clone-an-existing-form-from-a-url.
