I am using state picker on this form. Is there a way for it not to automatically default to Al?

    Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry at JotForm support.

Unfortunately, with the State Picker widget, there is no option to set the default as "Select State".

Currently, our developers are working on incorporating a blank selection to the widget per earlier feature request. However, we cannot guarantee when or whether it will be implemented.

As a first workaround, you can insert a normal dropdown instead of a widget to your form. To configure this, please follow the steps below.

    1. Open your form in the Form Builder, and click on the Add Form Element in the left corner.

    2. Scroll down to find a Dropdown option, and drag it to where you want it placed in your form

    3. Click on the gear icon to open Properties

    4. Select the Options tab, and set Predifined options to US States

    5. Scroll further down, and set Show Text in Empty Option setting ON

    6. Write "Select state" or any preferred text to show as default in the dropdown

Also, if you want to use a Widget, the All States and Cities Widget does offer something similar. You can set the Widget to only show US States, and the first option for the widget will be displayed as blank.

You can configure the widget by adding it to your form, then configuring it to only US States. To do that, after the widget is inserted, follow the steps below:

    1. Click on the Widget, and click open the Widget Settings from the Magic wand icon

    2. Write US to the Limit Countries field

    3. Click Update Widget

As a second workaround, a more simplified version, you can also use the Address field and set the State Options to American States.

Please go ahead and test with all these options. Let us know if you have more questions regarding the state picker.

I am still having issues with this form. I need for a company to indicate multiple states.

    Hi again,

Why not shrink then duplicate the current widget?

I hope I have been of any help.

This is not a good solution. The recipient may need to list 9 states where employees reside.

Why can't multiple states be selected?

    Hi there,

Unfortunately, the original design for the address is to take information from one entity.

However, I can make a feature request for this but could not guarantee an ETA of when this will be developed or implemented.

Let us know if you wish to proceed.

    Best.
