Is there a way to calculate a percentage of the total purchase?

Asked by Judy Sarch on June 14, 2011 at 05:23 PM

I want to have members pay their dues and then charge 3% to cover the credit card. I currently use another form builder and I can put the dollar amount in a field but I can not calculate a percentage to add on.

    Hi Judy

Currently our product cannot do that but a workaround might be to include the percentage in the dues and inform the members that it is included. For instance, if the fee for a particular membership level is normally $100, enter the amount as $103. Do likewise for all the other membership levels and place a Free Text (HTML) field somewhere on the form, stating something like "The dues above include a 3% charge to cover credit card".

Hopefully future updates of our form builder will have more robust calculation capabilities. Please let us know if there's anything else form related with which you require assistance.

    Thanks.

Any progress on this on this??

Would be great to be able to add 3% to paypal payments to save fussing with customer invoices.
For instance in my case as we offer direct payment options the customer would have to tell us that they want to pay by credit card and so we will then have to adjust the amount the pay and re-invoice them with a link to the payment form.  I wouldn't want to give them the link and have to correct payments again and again becasue the customer didn't understand they had to add 3%.

Ideally we would invoice our customers and just include the link to allow them to pay by entering the amount they have been invoiced.  An additional 3% would be added instantly and show the total they are paying before they submit.  Surely this must be a popular request?

If there is a way I can do that before you guys offer this ability I'd be happy to try it.

Hello cheekyface, we understand that you wanted this feature. It is requested by others as well. However, our development team is busy with other priorities and fixing bugs in the system. You will be updated here if our development team has started working on this or if they release this feature.

I have tried making a workaround on this earlier to dynamically change the pricing. It seems JotForm servers won't allow any tampering with the prices to add 3% dynamically. It is a security measure after all. For the meantime the only workaround is what my colleague has mentioned about pre-adding the percentages on the base price of the products.

I have escalated a ticket for this as a vote on your behalf. In time, our development team might consider this request.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you

    Hi Guys.

I understand it is now possible to add tax to products but I also noticed that it's not possible to do this for custom amounts.

I need to be able to calculate tax or add a percentage on a custom amount that is entered by the person using the form.  Any chance this will be possible some time soon?
