We would like to use this widget to record business courses for people who cannot make it to the live session done in person. Can this voice ercord widget record an 1hr or more of audio?

I believe you are talking about this widget here: http://widgets.jotform.com/widget/voice_recorder
To be honest I don't really know of it having a limit but there is a possibility of it having a server limitation for it so I will try to find out if there is one by asking our Developers about it on your behalf since I know we have some background limitations set for certain uploads to check. Additionally, I will test it to see if it can record 1hr or more which I believe it can but i'll let you know As soon as I know more about it with an updated response to you.
Also, I would take into mind that your recording is going to also be affected and limited by your account plan since it is technically a file. So if you have a Free Plan per say then you could only support a recording up to 100mb but that depends on how long the recordings are. The File Usage Space Increases with each higher level plan which is necessary to store the recorded vile that is submitted to you.

One of my colleagues pointed out that someone else had already asked this question as of a while ago and one of our Developers stated in it that the Voice Recording Widget has a current limitation of only 10 minutes so to get an hour technically the only workaround would be to use it 6 times for that.

If possible please can you let me know what the time to storage space ratio is on these recordings? i.e. 1Mb per minute for example.

I did a test on this and found out the ratio to be
740KB = 8secs OR 5.5MB = 1min
Hope this help. Inform us if you need further assistance.

Thanks jonathan that's just what I needed. As a further thought is there any scope for options to compress the audio in the future perhaps?

I will check with our developers if there are plans to compress the audio in the future and I will get back to you.
