Hi, is there a way to prevent fields from deletion of data after edit submission? I read from another forum to use "Don't Clear" option by going to "Clear Hidden Field Values" section under Form settings. We don't wanna use that coz this will also affect some of the fields that are hidden. Do you have any suggestion?

Here is the link of the form that I am referring to.

    https://form.jotform.com/210478533654459

The problem field is the named of the insured and the location address (in the location address when you select more than 1 for example location 1, 2 and 3 are blank but location 4 is fine).

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Thank you!

    Hello there,
Hi, thank you for contacting support.

Could you please give us more details about your concern so we can assist you properly?

It's unclear for us the link between the "missing data" from your screenshot and "prevent fields from deletion of data after edit submission".

Unfortunately, your description doesn't let us provide the best support. Could you please rephrase?

We look forward to your response.

    Hi there,

What we mean is that when you open the link and go to the Client Info section, and you answer the question "How many named insured will there be in the policy, therefore showing on the EOI. (This must match with request for EOI)" and you select "1", a text field will pop up where you have to enter the name of the insured. Then let say you answered all the questions and submit the form, we received an email notification with edit submission link. We click the edit submission and redirect us to the same form we just submitted but if you go back to the Client Info section the name of the insured is no longer there.

Same goes with Building Info section, all the data from building 1 to 3 is gone on the edit submission but not for building 4 which is weird because everything is still there for building 4.

I hope this will clear our question. Thank you.

    Hello Rein,
I clicked on the edit link but I didn't face any missing information as you can see in the GIF below.1625032804_60dc0864715e8_

For testing purposes, could you please clone your form and check if the problem still persists?

I am working with a form in which i take the password input from the user and then javascript checks if the passwords match. But even if the password is required, the form gets submitted if the input box is left empty. I am using javascript to submit the form.

    Hi,

Yes it is working right now because the settings for "Clear Hidden Field Values" is set to "Don't Clear" but we want to avoid to use Don't Clear. Try to change it to "Clear on being Hidden" you will see the missing data.

For Insured Name, try selecting 4 and 4 as well on the number of location/building.

    Thank you.

    Hello, 👋

    Thanks for your reply.

I was able to recreate your issue on my cloned form:

May I know - what reason prevents you from using the "Don't Clear" option? Maybe we can suggest a workaround here.

    Thanks,

    Alex

    Hi,

We are using Smart PDF on our forms and "Don't Clear" will not be the best option, for example, on their first submission they have 4 locations/buildings and when they use edit submission for their second submission and let say they change the number of location from 4 to 1, the value of location 2, 3 and 4 will still be showing on the pdf.

What it means is that even though the field is hidden, when the form is submitted, it shall still submit the contents of a hidden field. = This is not what we want to accomplish whenever a user opts to edit submission.

    Thank you.

    Hello there,

Users may have been able to ignore the fields due to the browser's javascript disabled. Mandatory fields are checked using javascript and as such if they are disabled, the user can submit the form even if a mandatory field is not filled in.

To prevent the user from submitting the form, if their javascript is disabled, you can add the NoScript widget in your form. When this widget is added to the form, it will conditionally hide the entire form and display the message you defined when JavaScript is disabled in the browser.

Please try it out and let us know if you receive a submission with the required fields blank.

    Hi,

I added the No Script widget and when we do the edit submission there are fields that are still blank.

    Thanks,

    Rein

    Hi there,

I just started experiencing this issue on one of my JotForms, as well.

Apart from having to recreate the form (which is not possible at this time due to time restrictions), I'm not sure how else to troubleshoot/resolve the issue. We have users that will need to edit the submissions of this form to be able to counter-sign. If they try to edit the submitted form, all the fields that were previously filled in are blank, as if the form was submitted without anything being filled in.

I've also created this form as a Smart PDF and occasionally update the form via the PDF Editor, considering this is a contract between 2 parties and need to format the PDF accordingly. I've submitted the form in separate browsers and in a guest window, and it still produces the same results.

If you have any other troubleshooting options I've missed or require further information from me, please let me know.

    Thank You,

    Jessica
