    Exclude Text From Calculations?

Asked by StudioBe on January 23, 2014 at 11:35 AM

Ok, I am working with the new ability to calculate on my forms (awesome by the way). I have to use numbers fields because I am calculating decimals and I don’t believe regular text boxes have the ability to calculate decimals yet. That being said, I need to also use "$" is these fields. For example: "$ [{field1} / {field2}]". However, because the "$" is in the field, it will not calculate. I hope this makes sense. I get the error saying that this field can only contain numeric values. It makes sense why it will not but I am wondering if you can exclude the "$" from the calculation? I know I could just remove them but these forms are to calculate goal in a dollar value to it important that it's there. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

    Hi,

You are correct, it is not possible to calculate decimals using textboxes, so the solution is to use Number fields, which is what you are doing. Now, if you want to let the symbol $ to appear in the total of the calculation, would it be Ok for you to use it in the label of the field where the total will appear as I show in the image:

That may also help. However, if that does not help you, I will try to think in a different way to let the symbol $ appear. Otherwise, let us know that idea is good for you.

    Tahnks
