how can you send an email from submissions view

Asked by mgcaledonian13 on February 18, 2014 at 07:55 AM

This might be on for the Submission View Developer alp_deniz.

I want to send an email to the seller of individual items fro a submission view. I have created a Submission View that lists the entries from a "For sale" form, these entries are submitted by different people and I want to add a "Contact the Seller" button that directs them to a form where they can give their email address and any further questions that they might have about the Item for sale directly to the Seller without revealing their email address.

Can you please give me some clue as to how this might be done?

    Hi,

How someone can contact the seller, I mean, do you have the contact information of the seller such as Email Address to the Submissions View from your "For Sale" form?

If you are using another form, you can just use noreply@jotform.com as the Sender Email and remove the email field tag from the Notification Email Body so after someone submits the form, the seller receives the email without the submitters address.

    Thanks

I don't think I explained this all that well.I'll try again.

The sellers email address is "attached" to a particular Submission entry, I want to use that email address which refers to that particulr item to send a notification to the person that originally created the submission to inform them that someone wants to contact them about their particular Item For Sale.

Please look at this Screen shot http://www.mgcaledonian.com/screenshot-contact-form/

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting us.

That might be a little hard to achieve through Jotform, especially since it might require the following functionality:

    1. Collecting email addresses attached to Items for sale

    2. Displaying those items for sale with an option to contact to the seller

    3. Initiating a contact form that will send an email to the seller in relation to the item.

    Sound about right?

If so, how many sellers are you looking to have? I'm thinking of a workaround, but it is limited to the number of sellers you anticipate to have....

    Here's how it would work:

    1. Seller submits Item for sale with  contact information - Item for sale is attached to a unique ID

    2. You can display the Item for sale on your website, with the uniqueID as part of the identifying property

    3. A button can be added to each item to contact the seller, which will open a contact form - prepopulate the unique ID, which will trigger a conditional rule to send the message to the email attached to the Unique ID

Do you think this might work as described?

    Thanks for this suggestion.

How many sellers will we have? You could ask how long is a piece of string?

As we are a car Enthusiast Club with 370 members of whickh 80 are "active" I would suspect a number in that region, Of course they all might want to "sell" more than one item, say 4, that would then mean the number of "sellers" would be 320 does this  cause a problem, I suspect you may have been thinking a lot more, well I hope so.

Ok, we already use the Unique Number Widget so it is not necessary to cover that. I will set up a Unique Number field in the first form. All I need to do now is create a button either jpeg or png and insert it into the "View" part of the Submission to open the contact form. So that just leaves the prepopulate the unique ID, which will trigger a conditional rule to send the message to the email attached to the Unique ID.... for you to explain. I did look at a post regarding prepopulation but was not that sure what the actual instruction meant, can you explain please? I'll look at again and with your instruction and the background from the other post I may get the hang of it.

I keep saying this, your support is second to none and a fantastic service.

Just had a look at the post "How can I prepopulate fields in one form with values from another?"

and from there went to this user guide. and tried to do as suggested, fell at the first fence as I could not find the Unique ID field see code below.

    Hi,

Can you please clarify.. are you trying to pre-popluate the Unique ID field?

Or are you trying to use the current value of the Unique ID field.

To find out the name if the Unique ID field in your form http://www.jotformpro.com/form/40466986732971 , use the Property of the field.(refer to image below)

So, in your form, the name name id of that field is clickTo27

Actually, it is not advisable to pre-populate the Unique ID field with value - as you can see, this field always have unique sequencing value already.

Hope this help. Inform us if you need further assistance.

    Thanks!

OK I can see what you mean but if the purpose of it is just to idetify the item and trigger a response email to advise the seller that there is an interested party and supply his email address and therefore the unique number becomes irrelevant in the new form. It would not matter if the sequence continnued to change after the Seller has been informed. Can a unique number populate any other type of field?

Pleses see a image of what I trying to achieve at http://www.mgcaledonian.com/screenshot-contact-form/

Can you tell me how to do it and I will test and see how it looks?

Upon checking your screenshot, I think you can add a radio button asking for the particular interest, then you can send your "lead" to a 3rd party service such as Mailchimp or Salesforce, this way you'll classify in a more detailed way your leads and send the emails accordingly

    How to Integrate with MailChimp

Thanks for all your help on tthis problem but I'm afraid that neither Mailchimp nor Salesforce seem the route to take, to complex. I will just get all the enquiries sent to me and I will distribute them manually, a bit clonky and cumbersome but it seem the easiest soloution at the moment.

    Thanks again.
