If our form exceeds the plan's submission limit, what happens to the excess information received until we can upgrade? Can we retrieve it later? How long does it take for the upgrade to take effect?

The upgrade is almost instant. Please go to the billing section of your account page to proceed with the upgrade. https://www.jotform.com/myaccount/billing
When your account passed the submissions limit allocated for the month, your form will automatically stopped accepting submissions. In short, no submissions will go through the moment you passed the limits. A message indicating about over quota will be displayed to your form for user's awareness.
