So in order to avoid basic misunderstanding, am I right in understanding that I need third party software to create a fillable pdf in the first place (in order to produce layouts that are beyond the ability of the Jotform PDF Editor tool)? And secondly, can I add additional fields to my form which are over and above what are on my Smart PDF form? (I don't want all my form fields on the pdf - some only need to be in the csv.) And third, can I re-arrange the layout of the form that is created without affecting the layout of the pdf that is attached to the submission email? Thanks.

    No, it's your own pdf.

can I add additional fields to my form which are over and above what are on my Smart PDF form?

    Yes.

can I re-arrange the layout of the form that is created without affecting the layout of the pdf that is attached to the submission email?
