I'd like to put two dates onto my form, the date of original submission, (the date obtained from a normal date/time field which does not alter on reopening the submission for editing), and the date of the current resubmission (i.e the date obtained from the date/time single widget which is set whenover the form is opened or reopened for editing).
I don't mind if these appear as fields or in a block of html text. I certainly don't want the user to be able to alter them. Apart from not being able to set either of these fields to read-only, there is the problem that when used as fields their layouts are completely different from eachother. Obviously I'd like them to look alike.

Unfortunately there is no way to accomplish what you need. It is not possible to freeze the Date fields or date widgets currently.
There may be workarounds to freeze fields and prevent the user from editing it, but it would required to use the Form full sourcode and apply custom script. That would be an external workaround and would not work while editing the submission.
So,unless one of my colleagues has any idea, we have to wait for the Date Time field is included to in the list of fields that allow the Read-only function.

I thought that I saw on some other thread that it is possible to include field names in an html text field, and for the the actual field contents to be displayed instead of the name. I don't remember which thread it was,and can't fnd it today. If it does exist, then presumably I could put the dates into hidden fields and get the dates into an html text field.

I did some digging and I think I found something with a workaround that is fairly close to what you mentioned by my colleague Abajan to send field data to the text field. I am thinking and wondering if maybe this was the thread you are referring to?

Thanks. I don't think it was that thread. It did not look familiar to me, and I think it was a more recent thread.

I think I've found it now. It was actually in one of my own threads
Can I put a button on my form to go to a particular url
and I've added amessage to that thread.
Thanks for looking. I'm very sorry to have wasted your time.
