Editing the question field of a check box has very short edit field

Asked by aimeeserafini on March 16, 2014 at 12:39 PM

Hi, every time I input or edit the question field of a check box question, it gives me a very short edit window (see active question in screenshot below)...I can only see about 50 characters, which is very frustrating to edit when you have a longer question. It is also that way when trying to edit from Show Properties. Is there a way to be able to see more of that field? When I edit the text beside the boxes, I have more room!

    Hi,

Use the Options button on the property tool bar to add long options conveniently.

    Cheers!

I was not asking about the options fields, I was asking about the question field. where above you have Test. I mentioned that you do indeed have more room in the text beside the boxes (the options) but not the question part (which is blue in  my screenshot).

    Hi,

Label Width is 150px by default, but you can adjust it whenever you want. However, I don't advise changing this to a bigger value when you are setting up the label to the left of right. TOP would be okay.

Please correct me if I misunderstood the requirements.

    Thanks

Hi yes, I dont' actually want to change how wide it appears on the form
itself, I just more room to teid the text when I click on it to edit it.
Like for example I may have a question that is 4 lines long on the left
side with 4 option fields on the right. When I edit the question of 4
lines, instead of being able to see all 4 lines, I can only see the top
line and have to cursor through just 50 characters at a time.

Unfortunately, using break tags or wrapping questions is not possible. It all goes into one line no matter what. What you can do to break the question into multiple lines is to lessen the label width.

How about setting up the label to TOP? You should be able to see a whole length of questions to top:

    Thanks

lol , i just can't seem to explain myself very well on this question.
Picture this, you have a question in the question field that is 200
    characters long.
You want to edit the middle of it, fix a typo.
But when you click on the field to edit it, you can only see the first 50
characters. You have to use arrows to move your cursor through 50
characters one at a time to find the typo to fix it.
If when you clicked on the field, you could see all of the words (like you
can with the options field), then you could easily make your edit. But you
can only see a tiny bit a time.
It would be like if when you type an email, you can only see 50 characters
of your email at a time, Very hard to edit it!

I understand. My apologies for turning around, I'm just trying to explain that text can't be wrap in the field label.

Since there's no easiest way to edit the typo (for example) in the field label, copying all the text into the notepad and fixing it from there should work. What your thoughts? After you fix the typo, paste it back to your field question.

    Thanks

Yes, that is a possible workaround. Not sure if that would save much time
unless I always had Notepad open, but if there was a lot of editing to be
    done I think it could.
Could you please put this as a requested fix? Since you have all kinds of
space to edit the options, it would seem it would be possible for the
question field as well, it would just need to be set up similarly.
    Thank you.
