Calculation Value: the option to use the text value/lable instead of the calculation value in single/multible choice and dropdown

    Hello

I have created a test form for you to show the actual problem

I have a calculated field called result.

Normally it would show: "Deliver: Whater" f.e., IF in field "type a question" would be no calculation values defined (f.e. price).

I was awaiting that it would show the price (calculation value only, if the output is defined as number (0-9)

I tried to get the output as text by changing the formular like this:

How can I get the result: "Deliver: Whater" while still having the price as calculation value?

    Thank you

    Markus

    Greetings,

Just to clarify your inquiry. You want the displayed result to be the selected choice text, but you also want to get the calculated price value of the selected choice?

You can create two calculated fields:
One calculated field will display the choice text and another one will display the calculated value and set it as hidden as shown in the image below.

    Hi Christopher

No, unfortunately your solution does not resolve my problem.

I would like to get in Result the Text "Whater".

In another field I will calculate the total of the price behind whater

It's not logic, that the result of the forumla always returns the calculation value behind whater. It should return "Whater", when the calculation field is defined as text ("A-Z").

To me it looks like a bug

    Hope this helped

    O.k. Christopher

Nice workaround for a standard bug instead of fixing the problem at its base. I really appreciate you solution, but is not applicable in my live form.

I just made a simple example in order to show you the problem, that the calculation field Result returns always the number.

As there is the possibility to define in the calculation widget if it should return text ("A-Z" in orange) or a number (0-9 in black) it also should work automatically, without having to have to do several conditions, as you did.

So why you dont just pass this to your developers, to ask them, to return the Text instead of a calculation value, if (A-Z) is chosen in the formula.

    It's obviously a malfunction.

It returns the text, if I remove the calculation values behind, but in this way, I lose the functionality of calculation values

    Thank you

    Kind regards,

    Markus

    Hi,

Can you show us what the real issue is in your real form? That way we can provide a more accurate resolution since we'll be getting the entire picture.

If you can give us the link to the form that you're having issues with and show us what the issue is, that will help us a lot.

Thank you very much for understanding and looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Hello again

Please see the problem in my summary field "Zusammenfassung wichtiger Hundedaten":

    1635916615 61821b4784af5 Calculation SOC Screenshot 21

There would be many other fields to be summarized in "Strength of character of the dog", but I had to stop this, when I noticed, that this will mess up text fields as showed in "Zusammenfassung wichtiger Hundedaten"

As there are already more than 400 conditions in this forms, this problem should be fixed at it's base instead of creating another hundreds of conditions to resolve this malfunction.

As this malfunction messes up my PDF's, I had temporarely remove the calculation values behind the concerned fields so that fields like "Zusammenfassung wichtiger Hundedaten" will be displayed correctly.

I did make a clone of my form before the removal of the calculation values , so you can make whatever tests you would like to do.

    https://eu.jotform.com/build/213060787251352

Again: This malfunction would be away, if calculation would return Text, if forumla is defined as text ("A-Z") and would return the calculation value, if forumla is defined as Number "0-9" .

Please note also, that also the many "&amp, amp, amp" disapear, when no calculation values are used...

    Hope this helped.

    Thank you

    Kind regards

    Markus

    Hello Markus,

I've raised this issue to our developers to make the option that enable us to use the text value/label alongside with the calculation value of the selected choice, currently the "A-Z" & the "0-9" option in a calculation is designed to define how to use the selected value (e.g. 100 + 200 equals 300 in the numeric calculation and 100200 in text calculation), I'm sure our developers would come with another way to enable the use of the text value instead the calculation value, the point here is that we can't provide an estimates for when this feature would be implemented, but you will be notified through this ticket once we have an update.

Till then you may use the workaround suggested by colleague in the previous reply, I know it is a painful solution when it comes to be applied to a big form like your form which already has many fields and conditions but unfortunately this is the available option at the moment.

Thank you for your understanding and please let us know if you need further assistance, we are happy to help.

    Thank you so much Ahmed!

I'll have to wait with my calculation project until there will be a solution from developers.

    Best regards,

    Markus
