Why does a script constantly run which makes saving and editing so slow?

Asked by danimusic2 on July 21, 2011 at 10:27 AM

I started using your forms at work.  On the work computer, the WYSIWYG editor runs a little slow, but it's manageable.  It worked a whole lot better when I found information on your forum for how to disable the auto save.  However, when I click the "SAVE" button manually, it brings up a script notification that says: "Stop running this script?  A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly.  If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive."

If I click "YES", the form does not save and gets stuck in a state where the save dial is just going around and around.  I had to refresh my browser with F5 or hard-reset it all together with the Task Manager, and then I lost all of my changes.  When I click "NO", it saves but it takes 3 minutes or so to complete.

When I try to run the website at home to work on my form, I might as well be running a dial up connection from the early 80's... it's way worse and way slower and I can't work on it at all.  (And my internet is not the issue because I don't have problems managing all kinds of media for my church website).  I even tried using remote desktop to connect to my work computer and then run it from home with no change.

Can someone tell me how to fix this problem?  I love your website and I love the ease of use.  I would also love to recommend it to other people, however, being a Corporate Trainer and knowing that not every user is of my same technical computer knowledge, I can't in good conscience do that while this issue persists.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I understand your frustration and I agree with you that we should improve the performance of JotForm for very large forms on Internet Explorer. But I just have two practical suggestions for you for now:

    1. Insted of using Internet Explorer, please use Google Chrome or Firefox. You will get better performance. Especially Chrome is very fast and efficient when it comes to JavaScript execution.

    2. You should also backup your form periodically. Since you have a large form that takes very long time to be saved, it is possible that you might lose part of your form during an update. To backup your form, right click on it on My Forms page and then select Clone Form.
