Browser language overrides the single file upload browse button and text language

Asked by DutchGalgoLobby on April 06, 2014 at 06:12 AM

Somehow Jotform defaults to the Dutch language without me remembering I've set it up to do so. The result is that all forms default to Dutch as well.

Changing the language with the language button solves only part of the problem.

The 'Browse' button is still in Dutch "Bladeren" and the text behind it is "geen bestand geselecteerd".

How can I set Jotform to use the full English default or change this specific button?

    Regards,

    Hi Ed,

Before you create the form. Make sure that the website language is set to English. You should be able to see the language menu at the bottom of the website:

Checking your form on the webpage given, the button and the selection text in already in English. Did you manage to resolved this?

    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply,

It however does not provide a solution.

I changed the language to English (so the left-menu is in English now) and created a new form. I added a file upload section and a submit button.

Still the ‘Browse’ button shows ‘Bladeren’ (in Dutch) and it still shows ’Geen bestand geselecteerd’ instead of ‘no file selected’.
But the Submit button is ‘submit’ now instead of ‘Verzenden’.

    See attached screenshot.

    Best regards,

    Ed van Dort

    Hi again,

This is the link to the form I created from a blank form after changing to English:
    https://cms.jotform.com/uploads/image_upload/image_upload/DutchGalgoLobby/25146_jotform.jpg

Below you’ll find the surprising experience while uploading it through your link: The Jotform page also shows ‘Bladeren’J
    https://cms.jotform.com/uploads/image_upload/image_upload/DutchGalgoLobby/25147_jotform_2.jpg

Finally, how I see the same form you tried … The submit and clear form buttons are in English. Just the ‘bladeren’ (browse) button stays Dutch.
    https://cms.jotform.com/uploads/image_upload/image_upload/DutchGalgoLobby/25148_jotform_3.jpg

I’m using Firefox 28.0, preferred language nl, secondary en-gb third en-us. (But changing the order doesn’t influence the result).

    Getting curious now …

    Best regards,

    Ed van Dor

Please try clearing your browser's cache, set the JotForm page back to english and log in to your account. If possible do let us know if you can try this from another browser such as Chrom for exmaple. So that we can obtain more information on what is causing this.

Do let us know if the issue persits then. So that we may assist you further. Thank you.

    Hi,

It’s getting weirder and weirder ….

Cleared all browser caches and tried the http://traveller.dutchgalgolobby.org/form.htm page with Firefox and IE explorer. Same results. (“Bladeren” instead of “Browse”). All other buttons are ok.

Then I tried Safari on my iPad (first time to this site). It displays “Kies bestand” (Choose file) which is a different text … and again “geen bestand geselecteerd” (No file selected). All other buttons are ok.

It looks like this specific button is connected to the OS-language ….

I surely hope you can find out what’s going on.

BTW, thanks for the great service on Sunday J

    Best regards,

    Ed

    Hi Ed,

Just to add my "two cents", like my colleagues, I'm seeing all English on that form (in all of my browsers).

We'll continue to investigate this issue but have any of your website visitors mentioned seeing Dutch elments on the form?

    Hi,
Yes, everyone I've spoken (approx 10 testers) in The Netherlands sees the same.
I think it could be related to OS language? But why it is different from the other buttons is a mystery. The other buttons tranlate in the correct language. It's just the browse button.
Tried it on Win7, Android, iOS and even WinXP. All Dutch installations. I dont have a US version available.
    Hope to hear from you,

I just found out that it's your browser language that overrides the Single File Upload Language. This is probably because the single file upload "button and text" is not part of the form's overall language settings and it's stored to our system. As you noticed, you cannot change the language from the form settings, not even in the multi language feature.

Let me forward this thread to our developers. For now, if possible, you may consider re-installing your browser using English(US) or install language pack that would allow you to change browser language easily.

    Thanks

Or, you can also enable Multi Upload. With multi upload field, you should be able to define your own language.

    Thanks

    Hi,

This is simply due to native file upload button being strongly OS&Browser&Language dependent. Here you can see definition and possible solutions to the problem,

    http://www.quirksmode.org/dom/inputfile.html

The native file upload button is well known by many internet users, so trying to change it is not a solution we plan to implement in near future. However, you can use multi upload field(As Welvin previously suggested) to prevent native upload button, because we used some customized upload button for that purpose and change the upload text to whatever you want.

    Thank you!
