I am a newbie to this so it's ok to assume I do not know much! :o) Second part to the question can I have the form put the data into a column format rather than in a row for each entry? Thank you in advance.

I am not sure if I have understood your question correctly. I did check your form but could not figure out how you want to perform calculation but let me answer on how to achieve your requirement:
Calculate grades: You can take advantage of our "Form Calculation" widget to perform mathematical calculation in your form. You can also use calculation based on any condition as well. The following guide should help you: http://www.jotform.com/help/268-How-to-Insert-Text-or-Mathematical-Caculation-into-a-field-using-a-Condition
Second part to the question can I have the form put the data into a column format rather than in a row for each entry?
It is currently not possible to achieve. Every new submission in your form will create a new row in submission page. You can integrate your form with google spreadsheet which will copy all submission records in your google spreadsheet. You can then manually change it the way you want it to be presented.
Hope this helps.
