Why is it that in the Properties window, the 'Name:' values have brackets? ex:{name1}.

Are they part of the input field name?

This is somewhat confusing. If these brackets are not part of the field name, then why have them there? They are not in the ID field detail value.

This is a re-post of a comment on How to find field IDs and names

    name properties then

    Hi,

That's called field name or field tag. A field tag is used on email notifications, on thank you page or even on prepopulating fields. They are replaced with the real field values once the form is submitted (processed on the server).

Let us know if you have further questions. Regards!
