Ability to customize PDF Report Format

  • randallmeeker
Asked on April 28, 2014 at 12:26 PM

When I create my email alert, I was hopign the downloaded PDF version would match, it does not. Is there a screen to also modify the PDF in the same way that I create my email alert?

    -- OR --

Is there a way to modify the label used in email and PDF generation because some of my questions use big long paragraph text and I don't need that regenerated on my email and pdfs.

Hi, unfortunatelly there is no way to customize it. The PDF output format is fixed and not customizable.

Since you have customized the e-mail alert, you can just print the e-mail message as PDF file (Chrome browser has this capability) Hope this help. Inform us if you need further assistance.

Unfortunately when I print an email I get all the email as formatted by the email client, that is why I wanted the PDF. I'm not sure if there is a place to make a feature request but it would be great to have the PDF use the same layout as the email alert OR to customize the PDF OR to customize the labels used in reports.

    @randallmeeker

We can submit this as a feature request, but we can't guarantee you of its implementation.

Is there anyway you could remove the additional formatting added by the email client? Maybe you can find it on the email settings, what email client you're using? If you can open the email on the browser, try printing it there, maybe that removes the formatting.

Or are you satisfied with submissions formatting like how it looks here? https://www.jotform.com/submission/264399963883422212. You can add this on your email so whenever you get a submission, just click on the link so it opens on your browser and then print it there. To do that, copy the following URL and paste it on your email notification.

I was not asking for guarantee that my feature be implimented, just throw it out there for consideration.

Removing the the email formatting used in the client is not an option because I can't control the email programs of the users who receive these emails.

Opening in your browser is a better solution, but it has some of the same drawbacks (baked in header / footer) and then to get the PDF you take another step to "Save" or "Print As". So at this point I would have to write up a How To for the users for each browser.

My thoughts is that the purpose of the PDF in any application is to overcome these hurdles in printing and the display of information and to keep formated page the way the user wants it formated. It seemed odd to offer the PDF, but not alter its layout, so I asked.

Thanks for the options, and lords know I maybe by myself in wanting this feature.

    Hi,

We got your point and it has been taken into consideration. My apologies for not mentioning it on the first place. Your request has been raised to our developers. We currently have few pending requests on the pipeline so I couldn't provide you a definite time to when this will be added to Jotform, but rest assured you will be informed here once any progress has been made.

By the way, have you ever heard about Webmerge? This enables you to create a custom PDF file and connect your Jotform data thru Zapier for integration. You can try this as an alternative though the downside here is that Webmerge has few limit for free users.

I actually was looking at Webmerge, although I don't particularly like their pricing. I have not heard of Zapier however. Could I just setup a webhook and not use Zapier?

I'm afraid that it may not be possible connecting Jotform to Webmerge without Zapier. Webhook is however, available to Jotform. Check this out: How-to-Setup-Webhook-with-JotForm.

    Thanks

I can see this feature request is still opened, however it might take a while to hear from our developers since there is no estimated time for the implementation, I will send a reminder to our second level.

If you have another question, please open a new thread, we will be glad to assist you.

Surely, we will. It takes time, but not forgotten. All requests are queued and some of them are worked on based on its priority. I'm sorry to make you wait. But I have just replied to your other thread with an update about this feature.

    Thank you.

Not to be a mood killer... but the pdf customizer seems to be so slow for me... also not intuitive... images also cannot be resized or customized... any thoughts?
