calculations dont work

I am trying to process:

if a drop down value is x then enter value y in a hidden field. but it just wont save the rule.

It was not about calculation of the value of drop-down field.

Are you perhaps trying to assign a hidden value to the email address field?

If you want to have a condition email base on a selection you should do it similar to what was described on this user guide instead.
