As far as the 'Number of Payments' figure, I am a little confused. I want to set up a subscription for 13 equal payments. If I put '13' in the 'Number of Payments' box, does that mean there will be a total of 13 payments (including the initial payment) or does it mean that after the initial payment there will be 13 subsequent payments?

To be honest that is something that I don't think has been asked yet. I believe it is the first payment is considered an initial payment which would be Payment #1 and each payment after that would be following this sequence ie - Payment #2, Payment #3, Etc, Etc,..
However, Just to be sure I have sent a note to developers who has mostly been in charge of this feature as he would know more. So I will get back to you as soon as I know something more about it since I want to make sure you are getting the right information.

Update:
It actually turns out that I was wrong about that so I do apologize. I found out that the Setup Fee in your initial payment is excluded so what I had stated above is incorrect.
What this means is that the Setup Fee is a Fee by itself so your first payment to start the subscription is Payment #1. Once that is up and the trial period starts then this resets and the trial period then starts your subsequent payment system on its own being Payments #1 through 13 in your case. So technically this means there would be 14 total payments (1 + 13 = 14).
