The form is blocking my script to work properly, how can I fix this?

Asked by mobilova on August 21, 2011 at 05:13 PM

My website www.mobilova.com isn't displaying a captcha roll down anymore, after adding the form code, how can I have this fixed? I think it's a javascript compatibility issue.

    Hi mobilova

Perhaps if we saw the actual page within which the form is embedded, we would be better able to advise you. However, try replacing the current form code with the iFrame version and see if that helps. If it does not, please provide the URL of the page with the form.

    Thanks.

Oops! Nevermind. I see you did indeed provide the site's URL. (How embarassing LOL :)

Okay, let me see I can find a solution to this and get back to you. In the meantime, one of my colleagues might have an answer. Incidentally, your assumption about there being a conflict is most likely correct because our forms are Prototype based while your site's scripts use jQuery. Unfortunately, the two libraries do not play nicely together but let me see if there's a solution somewhere on our forum.

Yeah, :) , I indeed provided the url, lol.

Okay, I hope you can find a solution to this , since I'll like to keep it working this way (sidebar tab + popup) and no embedding/iframe or lightbox (bad conversion rates in my case and somechanges in the page structure to implement anything else). Thanks.

You should probably don't have the feedback button on that page. Our developers are extremely busy and there is no way for us to fix this for you as quickly as you need. So, I do not set this as a bug report. Instead you should remove the feedback button from that page where you have the javascript code that conflicts with it.

Dear Aytekin, thanks for the follow up but,

just out of curiosity, have you take a look at the page you are talking about? have you been to this site: http://www.mobilova.com ? I guess NOT , because this is NOT a feedback, IT's a paymemt processing form, so it's extremely critical for my service, I can not just remove it, it's like asking me to remove prodcuts I sell from my eshop!

This is a well know issue of compatibility between Jquery and Prototype, there's a work around when the Jquery code is hosted locally, since I don't host it and I don't have a way to bind it to your code, and this is an issue that you will come accros quite often, I will suggest to take a closer look at it.

I may propose the following solution, you might offer a Jquery alternative to the code snipets, or try a work around server side.

I NEED the form at that page, so I can not remove it from there. How long do you project your developers need to take a look at it? And tehy are not fixing it for me, they are fixing it for your service, again: this is an issue that you will encounter more and more, at least as long as the service grow, since Jquery is quite popular over the place.

    Thanks

So far, I have investigated the issue and tried everything at my end (basically all no.conflict Jquery work around) , hasn't work for me, after mining the forum, I found ou this is an indeed well known issue here:

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/26824-JQuery-conflict-with-Feedback-Button

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/19011-Feedback-form-conflicts-with-other-JS-and-causes-my-image-Slideshow-to-dissappear-

There seems to be some work around solutions but as it turns out, it's for specific sites, so case by case, and I have no idea how to apply some of those solutions to my case without help.
I also reade some folks wondering why you choosed to use Prototype (a more or less dying framework) over Jquery, and am also wondering as well, but I guess, it was an internal decision, so count me in the list of people wishing to see you port te service to Jquery, Jquery is extremely popular and used by very high profile sites (so, it really can'T be wrong to work with it) + you will be able to grow your userbase much more faster and generate more revenues.

Moving from prototype to Jquery would require a massive rewrite. So, that's not really possible. One possible solution might be to only re-write our feedback button tool in jquery. It is something we might consider in the future.

You will need to change your jquery code tonot conflict with prototype:

Dear Aytekin, thanks for the follow up but I'm afraid you miss some sections of my latest answer:

Any Advice to get this fixed is welcome!

Unfortunately, there is no other solution. There is no easy way to make ptototype and jquery work together. You will need to choose between the captcha and the feedback button.

We will look into re-writing the feedback button code to not conflict with jquery, but it is not something we can do in the short term.
