Rich Text Editor: Required field error appears on submit

Asked by creativeservicesCRF on June 30, 2014 at 05:50 AM

The content being put into my rich text area is not coming through with submissions.

I have now made it a required field and it throws up an error on submission even though I have filled it in (see screenshot)

When I remove the rich text editor it works as expected.

    Any ideas?

The content being put into my rich text area is not coming through with submissions.

-Probably because someone skipped that field because you have it as not-required (before). I checked your form notification and the field tag is correct. I checked your form submissions and saw your test which is fine, the mentioned field is filled.

With regards to the required field error on the rich text field editor, removing the HINT Example will fix that:

Please consider doing that at the moment while I continue to investigate the main cause. I've created a new form with the same field but can't replicate it here: http://www.jotformpro.com/form/41803016458956

    Thanks

    Hi Welvin,

    Thanks for your response.

Strange. I've used rich text editor with hint examples on other forms and it doesn't cause the same problem.

    Is it a settings issue?

I'm not sure if one of the form settings is causing this. I have checked your form structure, the Free Text HTML fields, the conditional logic and those aren't the cause. I will check further. If I can't find it, I'll forward this to our developers.

For now, consider doing my suggestion - to remove the hint example.

    Thanks

I have removed the hint and it's working now. Is there a way of getting the data that was submitted before the field was made compulsory - We have a few entries with that field missing?

As I have mentioned to my previous reply, the field may have been skipped by the submitter, no data that was submitted there. If there's any, you should be able to receive it via email or see it in your form submissions page.

You can contact those submitters who missed filling up the field to re-submit their entries for that field.

    Thanks

It'd be really nice if JotForm fixed this problem.  I just ran into it again a year after this conversation took place.  Let's just say it's not an intuitive work-around.
