Is there a limit on number of file upload fields per form?

I am creating a form for people to upload files for a photography competition. We have 8 sections and people can upload 4 images per section - maximum of 32 file uploads.

Each file needs a title entered as well, so on my form for each file upload there is a text box that they enter the title and a file upload box where they select the file to upload - one section shown in screenshot.

Multiple file uploads is turned off - they can only upload one image per file upload box so I can track which image is for which section of the competition.

I have limited the file upload size to 5120 for each file upload, and file extensions is set to "jpg, jpeg".

Through trial and error I have found that the form will not upload anything from the file upload fields number 26 to 32. This is even if I am only uploading one file to the 26th upload field (hope that makes sense - e.g. I only want to enter one image in the competition and it happens to be in the section that has the 26th upload field on the form.  The 26th-32nd title fields still store the text that is entered, just the actual files are not uploaded).

I have also tried putting a page break into the form, but this seemed to have now bearing on this issue.

Does anyone know if there is a setting somewhere that is limiting a form to 25 upload file fields?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions :)

P.S. I have a premium account and have not reached file submission or upload limits.  I have also removed the Google drive integration that I had set up, and the issue is still there as the jot form submissions are still missing the files as well.

    Hello dunedinPhotogSoc,

I'm sorry for the trouble caused to you.

I am not sure if there is any specific limit on how many file can be uploaded in a form. As far as I understand, the only limit is that of total file size. The max file size in uploads can be up to 1GB per submissions.

I did try to submit your form by uploading 32 images but it seems you are right. It only displays 25 uploads and the submission records also has only 25 images.

I am sending a query to our back end team and we will get back to you as soon as we have any update from them.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

thanks for checking this out. It is a strange situation. Any solution or alternative way to achieve the desired upload of 32 images would be great!

    Thanks,

    Melanie

    Hello Melanie,

There are multiple options / widgets which will allow you to allow file upload in your form but I am not sure if that will be helpful in your case. You need to allow "Title" input of every file upload and save it, which will require you to use single file upload question only.

Lets us wait for the response form our back end team on if there is any limit on file upload.

    Thank you!

    Hello Melanie,

The maximum number of file uploads that can be used is 25 per single request (form submission). Beyond this, the rest gets discarded.

If you have further questions, please do let us know.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

that seems rather arbitrary and there is nothing in your documentation/support forums that outlines this limitation of JotForm.

Can you please advise if there is some way that this limitation can be changed, or the simplest way that this might be worked around?

    Thanks,

    Melanie

    I understand your concern, Melanie.

So far this is beyond my control since this restriction is set on the server.  While I've made an inquiry for increasing this setting's limit, I also cannot guarantee that it can be approved or can be approved anytime soon.  However, I'll keep you informed on the updates of this matter.

Also, I believe your form is the only the 2nd that reached beyond the maximum limits of file uploads and it's not often that people go beyond having 20 and above file upload fields in a form.  However, you are correct, we'll create an article that should explain in detail this limitation in JotForm.

We'll keep you posted on this matter.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I appreciate the prompt feedback that your support team provides.

We have committed (and paid) to use JotForm for our upcoming photography competition after comparing the service with other options.  I think it is a very useful tool, but this is a serious limitation that shouldn't be that difficult to change.

Can you please suggest any alternative options (in the mean time) that will allow us to achieve the required number of uploads?

    Thanks,

    Melanie

    @dunedinPhotogSoc

Thank you and we deeply apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

You can use 1 multiple file upload tool to your form per collapse section and then limit each of them to recognize up to 4 files maximum, so user can only upload four files per upload field. This should be working just fine.

    Example:

    Hope this still helps. Regards!

    Hi,

thanks for the reply.  This is not ideal - it relies on the users of the form not uploading more than one file at a time (refer back to my original post - we need to associate a title with each single file upload).

However, I have done what you suggested and changed each file upload button to be a multiple upload and it seems that this will work.

You have an error in your suggestion though - the multiple file upload limit is for the entire form, not for each collapse section.  Therefore the limit needs to be set to 32.

While this will work, I would rather not rely on the form users only selecting one file per upload button when they will be able to select multiple.

Can you please continue to follow up with this issue and let me know if there is some way to increase the maximum individual file uploads per page from 25.  It seems strange that you limit it here when there is no limit on multiple file uploads.

    Thanks,

    Melanie

    Hello Melanie,

I am can understand that this is not an ideal solution for your requirement and you need to rely on your user. But for now, my colleagues's workaround will work for you.

A ticket is already sent to our back end team. We will update you here if there are any update from them.

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Hello Melanie,

I've received a response from the admins.  Unfortunately, we cannot increase the maximum file uploads capacity per request as this may compromise the system's resources.

If we have progress on any jotform features that can be relevant to this case, we'll inform you right away.

Thanks for your patience and we apologize for this inconvenience.

    Here's an update, Melanie.

I forgot to recall, reading back on Elton's recommendation, just set it to 1 then you can use the multiple upload field to accept only one file per field.

Just click on properties (gear icon at the right side of the file upload element) > Show Properties

Is there a limit on number of file upload fields per form? Image 1 Screenshot 30

A window will appear and on the Maximum number of files, set it to 1.  This will restrict the file upload to only 1 file.

Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

    Thanks.

    Hi Liyam,

thanks for your responses.  That's fine, if the limit can't be changed we will just work within the limits.

In terms of your suggestion re setting the max num files to 1, as I said previously this does not work because this limit is per form not per button.

I.E. if I have two file upload buttons on my form and make them "allow multiple" and set the "maximum number of files" to 1 for each button, when I try and upload a file with the second button I get a message saying "only 1 file uploads allowed".

    Thanks,

    Melanie
