Issues in French Language Translation

    2) The French translation of the Credit Card fields is a joke (not to say un-professional).

"Credit Card number" is translated as "nmra diyal la carte" while it should be "Nº de carte" (copied from Paypal...)

"Security code" is translated as "Code de sécurité ilove me" while it should be "Cryptogramme visuel" (copied from Paypal...)

It doesn't take many years of learning French to guess that "ilove me" is not an appropriate translation.

"Street address" is translated as "Adresse de la rue" while it should be "Ligne d'adresse 1" (copied from Paypal...)

"Street address line 2" is translated as "nom de la rue ; 2ème ligne" while it should be "Ligne d'adresse 2 (facultatif)" (copied from Paypal...)

More generally, the French translation is quite weak and sometimes just misleading/unusable. Another example: in the Condition Wizard, when trying to combine rules both "Any" (OR) and "All" (AND) are translated to "Tous"... while the correct translation should be "Au moins une" (OR) et "Toutes" (AND)

If you need someone to review the French translation, I can help...

Thank You for taking the time to bring this to our attention and we really do appreciate your willingness to help out. I know some of our translations might not seem perfect, but I would like to point out that many of them were provided to us by other users such as yourself to help build our database and correct it accordingly for further improved usage. With that said you are always more than welcome to submit your own translated version to us. It would then be reviewed at some point and the better translation would be chosen. You can also obtain this here - JotForm Languages.

Would you have a copy of the file "translate.txt" pre-populated with what you have as French translation?

A couple of examples of basics which are completely off-track

"Login" is translated as "Connexion" Fine

    but

"Username" is translated as "Prénom" which means literally "first name"... It was a bit confusing the first time for me to find what to enter in this field! Hard to believe that any computer literate translator could not get this. "Nom d'utilisateur" is would you would usually find.

"Forgot Password" is not translated. Could be "Mot de passe oublié".

"Required" is translated as "demandé ou réclamé" while "Requis" could do it.

"Duplicate" is translated as "passworde" which doesn't mean anything. "Dupliquer" would be OK.

"Hide Field" is translated as "caché le champs". I would rather go for "Cacher le champs"

"Show Field" is translated as "montré le champs". I would rather go for "Montrer le champs"

"Delete" is translated as "mes7" which is completely meaningless. I would go for "Supprimer"

"Manage Multiple Fields is translated as "Gérer les Champs Multiples", while I would go for "Gérer plusieurs champs".

"Show Properties" is currently "moi" (="me" in English). I would suggest suggest "Montrer les paramètres" or "Montrer les propriétés"

"Setup & embed" is currently "Integrer le programme d'installation"("embed the installation program") while "Configuration & intégration" would be more appropriate

"Undo" is "ui" ???. Should be "Annuler"

"Button Align" rather than "Bouton Align" use "Aligner Bouton"

"Image Button" could be "Image Bouton"

"Survey Tools" is translated as "Enquête sur Outils" (meaning "Survey on Tools"); Should be "Outils pour enquêtes".

That's just a few examples on the first page.

There probably needs to be some rules. In the English version, you seem to put an upper case / capital letter at the start of each string and word. In the French, it looks to be random...

Again, if you send the pre-populated file, I can probably catch easily the most obvious / glaring mistakes.

I have seen the field where I can propose translations - I will do, but a word or a string of words may have different meanings out of context.

To be quite blunt, the french translation is currently in such a state that I had to revert to the english version to be able to get work done ("Duplicate" hidden behind "passorde", "Delete" behind "mse7",...).  No big deal. But when the mistakes are buried in the forms, it means having then to manually modify the generated code. Not pretty.

    Regards,

Thanks for the additional input about this. Are you unable to access it? I think I recall it being downloadable some time ago but it looks like we moved into an online list. Anyhow, either way though you should be able to just right-click and save-as "translate.txt" to your desktop. After you are done just send it to us at support@jotform.com

If you still cant access it, I've placed a copy of the "translation.txt" here in my google drive for you. :)

We added the translation option later on after this via the JotForm in different language translation link that I mentioned when selected because that was easier after the fact which I think contains a larger and more recent list since our platform continues to grow. However, with this it only shows one part at a time to be translated which I know might be a bit slow and tedious to do.

Fine, I can get it. I was looking for a pre-filled version with what you've got so far  so as to start from scratch!

Thank you for your help with the French translation.

We have accepted your updates from the online translation tool, so they should be added with the next site iteration.
