Does the submission total for each form count towards the accumulative number or is it separate for each form.

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking about the submission counter of your account. Is that correct?

Submission count is not based on your form but based on your account. If you have 20 forms in your account, all the forms together can only receive up to 100 submissions per month in free account. 

Please be noted that submission counters of your account are reset on the first day of every month.
