How can i block my form from appearing outside of Australia?

Asked by ammibalustrades on September 17, 2011 at 08:29 PM

We are a balustrades & aluminium louvres construction company in Australia. We only provide our services to locations within Australia. On our site, we have a offer FREE Online Quote form, where users can give details of their balustrades or aluminium louvres project. Once, they submit the form, we provide them with a quote. Recently, spammers from other countries -other than Australia - have begun to submit our form. These people fill our forms with useless information and use up our number of allowed submissions. I would like to have some feature on the form that would disable the form to users from outside of Australia. If this is not possible, how could I disable the web page from displaying to users outside Australia?

    Hi ammibalustrades

Thanks for asking. Our form builder does not currently have that capability and my research on the subject of blocking all IPs but those from a specific country (especially one as large as Australia) indicates that your goal may prove to be practically impossible.

Initially, my search looked promising when I happened upon a thread in another forum and read the solution provided by Mouze on July 4, 2008 but my hopes were dashed when further research revealed this thread started by a user who had a somewhat similar query to yours. As you can see, the major stumbling block is that IPs are constanly changing.

Nevertheless, there may yet be a solution and one of my learned colleagues who reads this may well provide it. For all we know, there could be some application that tracks IP changes and automagically updates htaccess' "deny from all IPs except" code.

    Keep hope alive! LOL

P.S. Although not really what you're seeking, as a halfway measure, setting Unique Submissions to either Loose or Strict should help to reduce spam.
