Using the input mask does force the customer to fill the field, however how do I overcome the issue with fields that require numbers. See screenshot, if my income was £100.00 the field does not allow me to proceed and it wants me to use the specified number of digits. So if I used 000s to complete the field this obviously changes the number to be greater than £100.00. Leading 000s not an option we work with many people with learning difficulties this would be to complicated for them.

Input masking is used if you require someone to fill the field with a fixed number of characters. You may consider removing the input masking and use numeric validations instead:
Or try Mask Input Widget instead: http://widgets.jotform.com/widget/masked_input.
